Weekend Escape: Puente Romano, Marbella

Do you see that sunshine? Yep. That sunshine right there is the overriding memory of my gorgeous few days at Puente Romano Beach Resort & Spa in Marbella last month…
Short weekend breaks to grab a little bit of sunshine,  before Spring kicks in here in London, are such a treat… and this luxurious resort was the perfect place to relax, feel the sun on my skin and begin my dreams of Summer…
Puente Romano Marbella is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. It’s situated on the southern coast of Spain in the Costa del Sol within the “Golden Mile”, a luxurious residential area between Marbella and Puerto Banus, just 35 minutes’ drive from Málaga Airport, so it’s super easy to get to.

Resembling an Andalusian village, the 264 luxurious Mediterranean style guest rooms are spread across 27 three–storey villas, among 55.000 sq. m. of lush, sub-tropical gardens, cascading down to the Mediterranean Sea.

Puente Romano, directly translated means ‘Roman Bridge’, and at the heart of the complex sits exactly this –  an authentic Roman Bridge. This ancient bridge, dating back to the 1st century, is a vestige of the Roman road linking Rome and Cadiz, the renowned Vía Augusta… and it is the most wonderful piece of history, which the resort is immensely proud of.

The resort is magnificent, with direct access to a 7km long beach,  several stunning pools, a range of different and all very delicious eateries (including UNI and Sea Grill, Dani García and Marbella’s first 100% GLUTEN-FREE restaurant – Celicioso) a golf club, tennis courts, a fitness and wellbeing centre, botanical gardens, an exquisite spa and their newest arrival is a brand new nightclub, La Suite, which opened while I was there – a very exciting development indeed…

My room itself was enormous and incredibly bright and spacious… I had a wonderful balcony which had plenty of sun and shade and was the perfect spot to eat breakfast al fresco

The Six Senses Spa is a luxury spa right by the sea…. offering gorgeous treatments in the most tranquil and beautiful setting… I’ve never seen a spa like it. It was absolutely stunning…

And while I wasn’t eating, reading, working or spa-ing…. I was enjoying quiet moments to take in my surroundings, smell the flowers and bask in the beautiful sunshine…

On our final night at the resort, we dined at UNI and then celebrated the opening of La Suite – and it was full to the brim with excited revellers from far and wide…
Taking inspiration from Studio 54, designer Jean-Pierre Martel, one of Spain’s most cutting edge interior designers, has really gone to town… think uplit glass walkways, a glass wall of bubbles, industrial steel panels, Roman-style windows, curved sofas, brightly-coloured cushions, seventies-inspired tables dotted around the cavernous space along with vintage accessories including transistor radios and brass lamps….and a striking art-deco style black polished concrete bar. It’s dazzling.
La Suite stays open to 6am, so if partying is your thing – this is where you need to be!

The resort really was the perfect spot to zip off to for the weekend and so, so easy to get to from London.
I flew on Monarch Airlines from Gatwick to Malaga and it was a total doddle…(by the way, did you know that with a Network Rail Card you can get 30% off the Gatwick Express? You’re welcome).
I loved it. And I am missing my beautiful balcony terribly.
See you soon Puente Romano!
