– UNI Restaurant – bringing Nikkei to Belgravia
Victoria, with its enormous station and busy roads, may seem like the last place you’d head to for a quiet and special dinner, but there are a myriad of charming and pretty streets nestled in and around the area… and on these streets are popping up more and more exciting new cafes, bars and gorgeous little restaurants…
UNI is on Ebury Street, which is the very street that Mozart lived on and wrote his very first symphony in 1764 – at number 180 Ebury Stret to be precise. Ian Fleming (who devised James Bond) also lived at 22b Ebury Street from 1934 to 1945… so it’s following in some rather glittering footsteps.
UNI is all about vibrancy – vibrant colours, vibrant flavours and vibrant textures of the very best in Peruvian and Japanese fusion cuisine – ‘Nikkei’ – which takes its name from the Japanese word for the sea urchin, a Japanese delicacy.
UNI is the creation of former Nobu chef Rolando Ongcoy and the menu is packed with Japanese delicacies (Wagyu beef, black cod, sushi, sashimi etc…) and strong Peruvian influences, such as ceviche and tiraditos peruano.
This Andrew Martin-designed restaurant and sushi bar is on two levels, with a cosy space to hole up in downstairs and an open bar up top…
And it’s the perfect place to go for a girly night of sushi and cocktails…
All the food was absolutely exquisite – it looked amazing, it tasted amazing and the service at the restaurant was also impeccable.
The evening struck an amazing balance between luxurious and laid-back – it felt local and low-key, yet managed to be very, very special as well.
We were both a bit smitten…it’s a new firm favourite 🙂

Oh this place looks fantastic! I’ve generally thought Victoria area was a bit of a dead zone, but obviously there’s more to discover! Will have to head over and have a proper explore 🙂 xxx
