The dreamiest holiday escape to Gran Canaria, with Jet2Holidays
// press visit

I’m not sure how it happened, but a few weeks ago, the stars aligned, and I boarded a Jet2holidays plane to whisk me off to Gran Canaria, sans husband, sans child and with my lovely cousin Susannah, who had also left her chap and little one at home. This was the FIRST TIME either of us had done something like this and our children are the same age. We were elated. ELATED.
In case I’m not being clear, we both adore our families. The elation was coming from a place of carefree-ness… and only ourselves to think about… something neither of us have experienced in around 4 years. It was weird. And a bit confusing. And completely wonderful.
I’ve never considered package holidays to Gran Canaria before – I’ve always been a bit of a self-catering gal, or LM will sit and plan and plot everything for us. But let me tell you now – PACKAGE HOLIDAYS IS THE WAY FORWARD.
We met at Stansted Airport, where there were no queues at all. We had already checked in so just waltzed through security and suddenly we were in departures… and it was then that the penny dropped. This was real. It was happening. (There are LOADS of holidays from London Stansted to check out).
We were headed to Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort Spa and Casino with Jet2holidays, where we would be for the next 5 nights. Reading, swimming, eating delicious, fresh food and recharging our completely exhausted batteries. As the taxi pulled into the hotel’s sweeping grounds, I actually gasped. The palm trees! The heat! That gorgeous glowy light that just screams HOLIDAYYYYY!!! We were here and we couldn’t believe it.

The hotel has recently undergone an enormous refurbishment which has been so dramatic and successful that the hotel was awarded the ‘Premio Nacional Macael’ (Spanish Macael National Prize). The refurbishment was undertaken by Juan Francisco García and the Lopesan Hotel Group’s own design department and more than 75,347 sq ft of marble, granite and ultra-compact Dekton surface have been fitted… ENORMOUS!!
The renovation has added a very contemporary feel to the hotel, from the gardens, swimming pools, restaurants and exteriors to the bedrooms and common/reception areas. Crema Marfil marble, Negro Marquina and Negro Eclipse have been used to clad the columns (the columns are incredible – so grand) and also the floors of the reception area and the bathrooms in the rooms, adding a very sophisticated feel throughout. It’s a huge feat and is incredibly impressive.

It was late when we arrived but they had thoughtfully arranged a delicious supper for us in the room, which is something they provide for all guests, who arrive after dinner service. We went to our room, quickly unpacked and sat on our balcony in the warm evening, listening to the musical entertainment below and eating our supper.
The next few days were heaven. We very quickly found our groove and before long we had a kind of daily routine. Each day we would swim in the enormous 100m infinity pool before breakfast, then we’d have breakfast… (for two hours…) and then, back to the pool for sun-lounging, reading, podcasting, relaxing, snoozing… swimming… then smoothies and light lunch… then more lounging about (exhausting)… and then perhaps a walk around town, a mooch in the shops or even a swim in the sea… before heading back to the room for yoga on the balcony (we did this EVERY NIGHT! Susannah is the owner of Yogaloft and is an incredible yoga teacher – lucky me) showers and then down to supper. We were living an absolute dream and we just couldn’t believe it.

Every night there was entertainment on this stage, as well as an extensive programme of events during the day, including yoga, pilates and games for the children

We were staying on a half board basis, so enjoyed incredible buffet breakfasts and dinners every day. The buffet just went on and on and on… and provided everything you could wish for, from fresh fruit and salads, through to meat, fish, plenty of veggie options too… We were a bit overwhelmed by all the choice initially – for breakfast, did I want eggs or yoghurt or fish or cereal or pastries or cheese or…. It was amazing.
There were new dishes daily and everything was always fresh and always delicious.

The whole resort was incredibly verdant and lush – the tropical gardens are over 76,000m m2, and there are over 800 palm trees and another 100 different plants! We felt as though we were in some kind of oasis on this warm, sandy island…

This hotel and resort was perfect for us – it made for the ultimate getaway and we soaked every bit up. Equally, I know Izzy would adore it here and I’d love to come back with her and LM. I know that my parents would enjoy it too and this was reflected in the guests there – from all over the world, all different ages, couples, families, young, old and elderly… It was a wonderful mix and also gave the whole place a real community feel.

We stayed for 5 nights and left a little browner, completely re-energised, refreshed and full of excitement to see our families. This was the first time I’d flown to the Canary Islands with Jet2holidays and the whole experience, from start to finish, was gorgeous, seamless and very impressive.
We’re already plotting our return – will I see you there? You can check out all of the Jet2 flights to Gran Canaria here 🙂
