I recently met Gem in Stoke Newington for a late and lazy brekky. I’m not sure what time breakfast turns into brunch, but this was around 11:30. So definitely brunch territory, but I felt that by calling it breakfast I could justify a late lunch as well.
Green Room Café is situated on the ever so pretty Church Street in Stoke Newington – it used to be only a florist, but now the back has been transformed into a bright and airy café, with a very large eating space outside as well, where you can sit, nibble and natter in the sunshine amidst the plants and flowers.
Family run, the café has a uniquely homely feel to it, as though you are sitting in someone’s living room, or in our case, back garden.
The menu is short and sweet and had exactly what I fancied – poached eggs on toast with avocado. Gem went for an amazing potato rosti thing with salmon and hollandaise sauce… delicious, fresh and a really good size too. I didn’t need anything else, apart from my just-sweet-enough iced coffee.
After breakfast we headed out front to the florist area at the front and enjoyed smelling all the gorgeous looking blooms and choosing the perfect bunch…
Lianne Print Dress : Monsoon | Crossover bag : Accessorize
Looped Brass Ring : & Other Stories | Shoes : Faith
We left the café in a happy floral haze and strolled down Church street, mooching in all the gorgeous boutiques and buying lovely things that I really shouldn’t but I sent a picture of it to LM and he said that I should so I did.
And if you want to know what it was, you’re going to have to pop over to my Snapchat to find out ;)
Stoke Newington is a complete dilly of a place – a proper community hub of loveliness in North London, so if you’re ever feeling like you need a bit of ‘you’ time, head there.
Mooch about, have brekky and buy some blooms at Green Room Café.
You just won’t be able to help but feel sunny, inside out.

What a beautiful venue for breakfast OR brunch! I love these little multi-purpose spaces that are cropping up over the last few years, in a world of chains it’s so lovely to find unique independents x
I love it too – there are so many popping up all over the place! x
