A little taste of Mexico at The Clove Club

The Clove Club
The Clove Club is one of those places that you know, as soon as you walk through the door, that you’re just not in Kansas anymore. It feels special. Understated, muted, softly lit and special.
This gem of restaurant has been taking part in the “Year of Mexico”, which both the governments of Mexico and the United Kingdom have been celebrating, to encourage a greater understanding between our two societies and cultures….

A big part of this has been a grand culinary exchange, which is a bit like the French exchange you did when you were at school, except with top Mexican chefs being packed off to cook in some of my favourite London restaurants… and vice versa.

Each dinner has been a collaboration between a Mexican and a British Chef, preparing a dinner together with a menu that showcases their own and unique culinary styles, from both Mexico and the UK… and this is what I experienced at The Clove Club a couple of weeks ago – Chef Jorge Vallejo from Quintonil restaurant in Mexico City joined Chef Isaac Mc Hale to create a sensational meal…
The Clove Club
Blood Pancake, Suckling Pig, Devilled Spice & Coco Bean

The Clove Club
Amalfi Lemonade & Sarawak Pepper

The Clove Club
Guanabana Jelly, Chocolate & Avocado

Since that night, Jorge Vallejo’s restaurant has been voted as the highest ranking Mexico restaurant at Latin America’s World 50 Best Restaurant awards, which is super duper news.
This very special restaurant exchange continues through October, so if you fancy taking part you can find out more information here.
It’s not just nachos, you know.
