Sunday Lunch at The Albion

Finding great pubs in London serving outstanding Sunday lunches is not as easy as you might think. So when I do come across a goodie, I feel compelled to order everything on the menu and do a celebratory dance.
A couple of weeks ago I headed to The Albion with some friends for one of their super sonic Sunday lunches. So many boxes ticked at this place, and I’m not just talking about the food…

The Albion is a Georgian gem left over from a time when Islington was fields and farmland, where the regulars would take afternoon walks out of the city to visit, eat, drink and recharge.
With its wisteria covered façade and log fires which glow during the colder months, The Albion is in the perfect location – just off Upper Street and situated within the Barnsbury conservation area, it’s also just a stone’s throw from Sunday – another foodie favourite of mine.

The Albion has an enormous and extremely pretty walled garden

Amazing location, great service, gorgeous interior, huge outside walled garden… but let’s get back to the food. A previous winner of The Observer Food Monthly award for “Best Sunday Lunch”, The Albion really knows what it’s doing when it comes to roasts.

The Sunday lunch menu is great – gutsy mains and a good selection of fish and veggie options if you’re not into your meat. I wavered between roast Sussex lamb rump, lemon & thyme roast chicken, slow Roast Hampshire Pork Belly and the 28 Day Aged Roast Fore Rib with Yorkshire Pudding… but in the end I chose the beef and was extremely glad I did. Just LOOK at it! It was huge! But but not huge and impossible to eat – no – it was huge and I ATE IT ALL.

Every bit of the meal was amazing – the beef, the veggies, the gravy… completely and utterly YUM.
And then, there might have been desserts
Apple & Berry Crumble, Custard

It was a totally, completely and amazingly delicious and it is way up there on my list of best roasts in London.
Go go go.
