Beetles, Brighton, Sushi & Custard Tarts – My week in pictures –
Last week I announced that I NEEDED TO GET TO THE SEASIDE.
It’s been all go over the last few weeks and I knew I needed to stare at the sea for a bit, to realign my brain and just s l o w D O WN. (I do tend to go like the clappers… the sea is a wonderful reminder for me, of the world, it’s natural speed and fish and chips.)
So off we went…

We hadn’t planned it, but we touched down in Brighton on Saturday afternoon and bumped straight into the Brighton Food Festival. We jumped right in and ate our way around all the squillions of food tents… I had the above lamb kebab and LM indulged in a ridiculous looking hot dog. And oysters. And something Greek. And something Indian. Uh huh.

We strolled around Brighton, mooched in all the little boutiques and ate rather a lot of cake in the Angel Food Bakery… we sat on the beach, attempted to skim stones (one of us was really not very good at this. It may have been me) and we watched the sun go down, turning Brighton into gold….

The next day, we strolled back into town and had a lovely lazy Sunday breakfast at Bill’s, then hopped on a train to London… but not before we spotted this gorgeous Beetle bombing it down the road… love it!

That evening, we went to Yashin Ocean House on Old Brompton Road to try out their new express menu… and boy oh boy it was wonderful. You can see me rave about this on this post…

Monday morning arrived and I had a meeting in Holborn in the morning, so afterwards I settled myself in Freestate Coffee on Southhampton Row for much blogging, coffee and delicious salad-ness…

Last week I discovered the wonders of luxurious bed linen. I will never look back now – I’ve had a taste of what it’s like to have a ‘feels-like-a-hotel-bed-in-my-own-bedroom’ bed.. and I’m hooked. This bed linen from Christy has been a total game changer.

I seemed to run from one meeting to another last week and next on the agenda was a book club meeting with Notting Hill Book Club’s Captain Book (still playing around with names – not sure about this, or Head Bookworm – what do you think?!) where we discussed upcoming books, authors and events.. it’s very exciting times for Poppy Loves Book Club and if you’re not already a member, you can sign up here.
We met up in Le Pain Quotidien on Notting Hill Gate and I ordered the most delicious Salad Nicoisse – it was scrumptious.

I make very good use of London Transport and am always jumping on and off buses, trains and tubes.. I love them all for people watching so you can imagine my surprise (and disappointment) when I got on this train at Edgware Road station… bit spooky!

I was on my way for my first ever reflexology session (which I’ll be writing up very soon) and then on to meet Gem at the Soho Theatre to see Wingman – a new play, written and performed by Fringe First winner Richard Marsh.
It has received lots and lots of stars in lots and lots of newspapers and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I got there a bit early, so settled myself in Gail’s around the corner while I waited, where I may or may not have indulged in a massive bit of this…

Then it was into the theatre for the 75 minute play. Yep, it’s short. So there was plenty of time for some noodles and a natter in China Town afterwards…

‘Verbal dexterity, clever rhyming…Marsh and Wright give excellent performances.
★★★★ Scotsman
‘One of the most enjoyable finds at this year’s Fringe.’
★★★★ Evening Standard
‘Gloriously, upliftingly, unapologetically heart-warming. You leave with a tear in your eye and a generally restored faith in humanity.’
★★★★ Fest
Wingman runs until 20th Sept (this Saturday) so do get tickets if you can.

Friday on Golborne Road is a wonderful place to be. The market explodes all over the street and you can find everything you could possibly imagine. And not imagine. I love Lisboa Patisserie on Golborne Road, which I walk past on most days… it stacked to the hilt with delicious Portuguese cakes and tarts and my favourites – natas – the most amazing Portuguese custard tarts you’ll ever have. I feel confident in that statement. I will happily take bets…
And finally, here is my local fishmonger, where I popped in to inhale the amazing aroma of fresh fish and to buy some freshly caught salmon for supper.

As always, I have been documenting my week via my Instagram account, so please do pop over there and find me. I so enjoy seeing what you all have been up to as well… (I’m unbelievably nosey.)
If you’re short of things to do this week and you’ve already read London Timeout from cover to cover, don’t forget to have a look at my diary page to get inspired… (and you can add your own event too…)
Have a wonderful week everyone!

That goats cheese, sweet potato and avocado salad looks absolutely gorgeous! Looks like you had a lovely time at the beach too – it’s been so long since I’ve been to the beach, maybe I should try and convince the husband before it gets too cold! x
