3 lovely things for October
Ahh so here we are, team. Autumn is here and that long beautiful Summer has closed its doors… but I for one am revelling, for Autumn is my soul season. The tips of my toes season. That season that speaks to me and gives me hope and optimism and that wonderful sense of change… anything is possible.
It’s the season of tea. Of cinnamon buns and apple pie. And alongside these essentials (cinnamon buns are indeed an essential) come a myriad of other delights that come into their own once the leaves start to fall… As a side note, I’ve been taking some time to make some changes myself and I’m certain the process was made easier because I was wearing my cosiest tights and slippers. Convinced.
I’ve discovered three lovely things that have made the beginning of October immeasurably more lovely, and I wanted to share them with you here. And in the meantime, I hope you are all well and doing ok. Sending lots of love from my little desk over here in Walthamstow, straight to you.
Chase and Wonder
The folk at Chase and Wonder kindly sent me one of their candles, which rather knocked my socks off. Set up by husband and wife team, Faye and David, Chase and Wonder was born out of love and a desire for a different kind of life… The result are the most stunning sustainable candles, made with the finest quality eco soy & vegan friendly wax. The scents are beautiful, sophisticated and have deep layers of different aromas. I chose ‘The Botanist‘ and every so often I get an strong scent of freshly cut grass, amidst aromas of herbs, cut grass, mint, iris and pine wood. You can see their full range of scents here.
The reusable ceramic holders are handmade by ceramicists in Stoke-on-Trent, the heart of the Potteries, and are decorated with 22-Carat gold detailing, which also makes them the most gorgeous gifts (hint). Without a doubt, this is the best luxury candle I have ever owned. I love it and it’s perfect for these cosier days and evenings.
Honey Cake from Panzers
One does not have to be Jewish to fall in love with Honey Cake. You need nothing to celebrate, just the willingness to stop, pour yourself a well-brewed tea and settle back for a few minutes while you savour it. This honey cake from Panzer’s is the very best I have ever ever had. It’s sticky and gooey and light and aromatic and heavenly. It’s only on sale until the 7th October, so do get a wriggle on and pop one in your basket – then please invite me over. I’ll bring my own fork.
Pumpkin Picking at Cammas Hall
This has become a bit of a calendar staple in our family, and anyone else that we can rope in 😉 It’s the most heart-warming and wholesome experience – there’s nothing quite like standing in a field full of pumpkins, loading up your trolley with your favourites and then sitting down for a hot chocolate (or wine) while you plot how you are going to carve them up this year. Cammas Hall do it very well – this year they will have their biggest pumpkin patch ever, some spooky props for the kids, a Maize Maze and will have tractor and trailer rides to book as well. If you fancy some moonlight pumpkin picking, you can book one of their night slots… although that might be a bit too spooky for me! It runs through October until the 30th and you can book here.
