Cooking on gas with Gizzi Erskine (and a perfect soundtrack)

A few days ago I visited Google HQ in London. That’s like the MOTHERSHIP of the interwebby. My sense of direction is terrible at the best of times, so to be honest it was a miracle that I found my way to the amazing Google Kitchen, where Gizzi Erskine was ready and waiting, with her new cook book, a wooden spoon, a shed load of oil and sporting some sensational polka pants.

A few of us had been invited to cook up a storm with Gizzi and the Google Chef (he really was the Google Chef) while listening to some tunes courtesy of Google Play. The recipe she picked was straight out of her new cookbook – Seasons Eatings – and it was very delicious indeed…
Gizzi has teamed up with Google Play to celebrate the connection between music and cooking “the relationship between food and music is so natural and fits in perfectly into my own ethos. Everyone’s taste in music is different, just like it is for food”-Gizzi Erskine

When it comes to cooking and baking, Gizzi is all about ease, comfort, friends, family and feasting. And that is exactly my kind of everything. We made the most delicious sweetcorn fritters, with a tomato salsa, avocado, black bean stew and crispy fried eggs. Too delicious. And so, SO easy.

The combination of Gizzi’s infectious giggling, the amazing aromas and flavours and the groove of the Google Play playlists, made for a pretty gorgeous night.
To listen to any of these 10 curated cookery playlists, just head over to Google Play.
In the meantime, I’m off to fry me some fritters.
(I could eat them all day long).
Gizzi Erskine’s brand new cookery book Season’s Eatings will be published on September 8 2016 by Mitchell Beazley, £25
You can listen to the playlists as you cook and dine, by downloading the Google Play Music app and starting a 30-day free trial here., or by downloading the app on iOS or Android. You can also search for these playlists listed below or search under ‘baking’ to locate them all.
