Michele del Monaco arrives at The Wellesley

Overlooking Hyde Park amidst the glamour of Knightsbridge, lies the beautiful, grand, elegant and luxurious hotel, The Wellesley.
Not only is it home to four exquisite and intimate bars and restaurants, but this art deco style hotel also boasts the finest Italian food, outstanding service, live music performances and a renowned collection of the finest spirits and cigars. Not that I’d know much about that stuff… but the chaps enjoying their cigars in the bar were certainly very happy chaps indeed.

Oooh and fact of the day is that The Wellesley is also home to Europe’s largest cigar; Humidor. Pull that one out the bag when you’re next trying to impress someone with your diverse knowledge.
The BIG NEWS is that they have recently welcomed a new executive chef – Michele del Monaco… and with him comes a brand new amazers menu… and everyone is VERY EXCITED.

Raised in Caserta, Michele del Monaco grew up surrounded by the finest ingredients and traditions of Southern Italy. He’s had an amazing career, including working in Sardinia, taking the position of Executive Chef in one of the Rio de Janeiro’s finest Italian restaurants and joining the world renowned kitchens at the two Michelin stared Hotel Il Pellicano in Tuscany.

Over his global career, del Monaco has evolved his cooking to incorporate the modern fine dining style whilst maintaining the authentic Italian concept inspired by his homeland, which is what he is now bringing to The Oval Restaurant at The Wellesley. And is what I experienced when I found myself there a couple of weeks ago, sampling the sensational taster menu, which combines simple ingredients and fine presentation to evoke gorgeous images of Italy…

The meal was delicious and so beautifully designed. It’s no wonder The Wellesley are pleased to have this brilliant new chef under their roof – the people of London will be banging the door down for that chocolate fondant.
(When I say ‘people’ I mean ‘me’. Obvs.)

This was already on my hit list. Your photography of the deco design is stunning. I can imagine a jazz singer huskily belting a tune as you have an after dinner aperitif.
