Breakfast at The Botanist

The Botanist

I’m a bit of a brekky fan, so when I was invited to try the new breakfast menu at The Botanist on Sloane Square, I jumped at the chance. And so did Red – my loyal breakfast buddy.
The Botanist is a gorgeous and elegant restaurant – light and bright and beautifully styled.

We sat by the window and stared in a hypnotic fashion at our menus for a while.. (it was tricky to choose.) The menu was perfect – I wanted everything. Which was problematic. So, while we were deciding, we had a smoothie.

I had the Mint Lift and Red chose the Berry Quencher. Both were ridiculously delicious – Red preferred the Berry one and I couldn’t decide between the two… So pretty! So healthy! So fresh! Smoothies are my new favourite thing. (Aside from cake. Obviously.)

I can’t stress enough how difficult it was making our foodie decisions. (Look here – you’ll understand why.) Thankfully we managed it in the end and we picked so WELL! Red chose ‘blueberry buttermilk pancakes, smoked streaky bacon with maple syrup’ and I had ‘avocado on toast with smoked streaky bacon’.  Holy. Moly.
The flavours in the avocado were out of this world – every bite was an avocado-zingy-yum-fresh-with-a-kick explosion in my mouth. And the saltiness of the bacon complemented it perfectly… (actually dribbling as I write this..)

We were in brekky heaven. The pancakes were light and fluffy and packed with juicy berries. You can’t see in the photo, but the blueberries were actually IN the pancakes, like hidden treasures – not just dotted around the plate. We were thinking about this for a while.. at what point did they (Botanist magicians) add the blueberries? In the batter? In the pan? There then followed a heated (it wasn’t at all heated) blueberry debate, which would have gone on for hours had we not been distracted by the amazing fruit plate that landed on our table. Like magic.

You can’t see in the photo, but the fruit plate came with the most delicious yoghurt, toasted seeds and honey to drizzle. Heaven.

We ended our brekky with coffee and more nattering.
The Botanist is now officially one of my most favourite places to go for breakfast. The staff were so helpful and friendly, the food was beautifully presented, fresh and utterly delicious and the location and atmosphere of the restaurant itself made for the perfect brekky with a bestie.
I can’t wait for next time..
