Wardrobe detoxing & beating Cancer with TK Maxx

My wardrobe is a complete embarrassment. There are remnants of teenage years, boots with heels missing, dresses with hems that I had always intended to take up but never did, jeans which I’d always intended to fit into… but never did… and every time I open the doors to this cupboard of doom, it is like stepping back in time… or perhaps that’s being kind. It’s like stepping into a mahoosive mess.

I (like many of you, I’m sure – I can’t be the only one, can I?) have had such good intentions over the years about ‘having a good clear out’… and occasionally I make piles all over the floor. The charity shop pile, the eBay pile, the ‘maybe I’ll fit into it one day so don’t chuck it yet’ pile… and then after a few days, when I’ve still not made it down to the charity shop and I’ve fallen over all the piles several times… I bundle them all back into the wardrobe, aka, the ‘deal with it another day’ pile.

No more. This madness stopped today and it’s not because I suddenly had a personality transplant, but it’s because I discovered a really fantastic incentive to do so… and it comes in the form of TK Maxx.

TK Maxx has been the official corporate sponsor for Cancer Research UK Kids and Teens for the past 11 years and have so far raised nearly £20m for charity, via their amazing campaign called Give Up Clothes for Good. The campaign simply asks the public to donate their unwanted clothes and they will transform them (like magic!) into moolar for Cancer Research UK. Poof!

This is the UK’s BIGGEST clothes collection and every single penny of the money raised will help fund research into childhood cancers in the UK – and we’re not talking peanuts. Every bag donated could be worth up to £30, especially if you add Gift Aid on top.
This campaign spurred me on to empty my wardrobe of all the items I no longer wear, (which took all of half an hour) bag them up and I will be dropping them off proudly at my local TK Maxx this week. It’s also come in perfect time for the change in season – this always fills me with a desire for a fresh slate… and a clean and tidy wardrobe will surely lead to a clean and tidy mind. No?
This month is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and what an amazing thing it is that you and I can help beat childhood cancers sooner by just being a bit organised and donating a bag (or seven) of unwanted clothes, accessories and homeware (nothing broken please!) to TK Maxx.
I’d love for you to get involved with this amazing initiative as well, so if you have clothes that no longer fit you (or never fitted you!) or if you have items in your wardrobe which used to be favourites, but actually you haven’t worn them in over a year or two… just bag them up and take them down to TK Maxx.
And as I’m so nosy, please share with me what you’ve donated on Twitter! Just post a pic and use the hashtag #GiveUpClothes.
Bag it, bring it, help beat childhood cancers sooner.
I’m in! Are you?
