A Bath staycation at The Fairytale Writer

We had had some really exhausting weeks, where we just felt as thought we couldn’t catch a break. One bug after another, Izzy having a cold and an endless cough that just wouldn’t quit… I got a bug, LM we got a bug, we all got a bug…. and then, a window of time presented itself to us, with no illness, no crazy work and no snotty toddler… and we got in the car and headed to one of our favourite UK cities for a little staycation – the very, very beautiful Bath.

We had been invited to stay at The Fairytale Writer – a gorgeous mews house and one third of the Curated Collection. The location was unbelievable. It’s set on a gentle, quiet lane right behind The Circus, less than 100 meters from all the artisan cafes and restaurants and only a few mins walk to Georgian culture gemstones like The Royal Crescent & Assembly rooms. And with a toddler, easy proximity to all the highlights makes for a much, MUCH happier trip!

The cottage made for the most perfect base for us to explore the city, hop from cafe to cafe and introduce Izzy to this very special place. It has a kind of zen vibe – every room felt tranquil and gentle and we started to feel ourselves relax and uncoil…

Started off as a single renovation project, by our founder Tina as a passion project to create a unique place to stay for the discerning traveller.

We hopped aboard the Toot Bus with Izzy, who was completely fascinated by the headphones and all the different languages you could listen to. She listen to the entire commentary in French and Italian. Obviously. I cannot recommend the open top bus enough – it’s such a fun and whizzy way to see the city. And while you learn about the history and secrets of Bath, you’d toddler can be brushing up on their Italian. Win win.

We had such a lovely time together as a family, hopping about the city and hanging out together in The Fairytale Writer… it was a special, special time. It was slow and gentle and full of book shop meandering, coffee sipping and lazy movie watching. I loved it.

And then, just as we were leaving, I caught Covid! But that’s a whole other story… (and should explain the delay in me writing about this beautiful few days!)
