9 things that spark joy

A few months ago I bought Marie Kondo’s book ‘Spark Joy: An Illustrated Guide to the Japanese Art of Tidying‘, because it was necessary. Let’s leave it at that.
The book arrived and then I very quickly lost it under one of the piles of papers Marie Kondo so desperately wanted me to clear out. Irony doesn’t even begin to cut it.
But recently, after the Big Move, I found it and began to read, loving that she had made the idea that an item or thing could ‘spark joy’ real and very tangible. This is something I’ve always known, but had never quite managed to put into words.
However, I’m not sure Marie Kondo meant for as many things to spark as much joy as they do, when it comes to me. But they do. Little things, items and bits and pieces do make me extremely happy, which means that parting with them just isn’t an option… So for now, the big TIDY UP will have to wait and in the meantime, here are nine things that brought a smile to my face this week.
We’re going to need a bigger boat.
Robert Welch Cutlery
Malvern cutlery by Robert Welch – a friendlier spoon I never did see. And I will only eat my soup using a friendly spoon. And quite frankly, so should everybody. This Malvern cutlery is a limited edition range so if you have fallen in love with the curve and shine, snap them up before they’re gone.

Celtic & Co cardigan
Cable Edged Donegal Cardigan: Celtic & Co. Cosy doesn’t even begin to cut it. This cardi has been wrapping me up on chilly morning walks, while I’ve been learning to master the art of bean stew, and on the sofa for binge watching sessions of The Crown. We are officially the best of friends.

Parker Dairies
Finding my local milkman has changed my life and made it even happier. Fact. Parker Dairies deliver organic semi skimmed milk to me twice a week and it’s a highlight of the day. Slippers: Sorel

Autumn Flower
Fresh Autumnal flowers, bought at a local florist, sit by my fireplace looking gorgeous. Spark spark spark. Joy joy joy.

Lucy Says I Do
Merry & Bright Christmas Card: Lucy Says I Do – 15% of the net proceeds from the sale of these cards goes to Teenage Cancer Trust (Currently if you buy two packs you get the third free!)

White Company Candle
Autumn Candle: White Company – my living room now smells of pear, quince, apricot, musk & amber

Telephone
A REAL telephone that doesn’t cut out, lose reception or make you sound like a robot. My mum is very pleased. Telephone by Wild & Wolf at John Lewis

Banana Republic Gloves
Seamed leather gloves: Banana Republic. Classy, cosy & exceptionally comfortable. Gloves are my Winter saviours and these babies aren’t coming off my mits any time soon. Love them. Love love LOVE them.

Brunch at Raw Duck
Yes I know it’s not officially a ‘thing’ but my brunch with pals at Raw Duck in Hackney sparked more joy than you can possibly imagine. So here it is on the list. And go go go. I ordered sunny fried eggs, coconut rice, chilli sambal, cucumber & roasted peanuts. And I suggest you do too.

Writing about things that make me happy is such a pleasure! I may do this again very soon…
And you? What would be on your list?
