I’m always on the hunt for a delicious and inexpensive midweek supper spot… throw in a 10 second walk from Old Street Station, perfect pasta, and fabulous sharing dishes and you’ve got Passo – an Italian-inspired restaurant, bringing a more refined approach to traditional, southern European cooking… and it’s bloody lovely.
LM and I headed to the Shoreditch establishment after work one day – Grandma and Grandpa came to the rescue (babysitting) and I hopped on the tube to meet him at Passo. I walked in to the warmest greeting and a very beautiful room. Elegantly designed and featuring natural woods, Passo’s subtle earthy tones and floor-to-ceiling windows were designed by East London design outlet Alexander Waterworth, the designer behind Luca in Farringdon and Soho Farmhouse, Oxfordshire… so yep, he knows what he’s doing and he’s done it very well indeed.
Joe Howley (ex-Salt Yard) has recently joined Passo and has transformed the menu, making Passo a more eclectic dining experience that will reflect his experiences at Salt Yard, complimented by influences from his travels. Joe’s cooking celebrates exceptional produce and big, bold and punchy Italian flavours. He is skilled in reinterpreting tradition, which is particularly noticeable with his hand-rolled pasta dishes…
“Passo is a beautiful restaurant and the opportunity to head up such a significant space in this part of town is an exciting one. I’m looking forward to bringing my own style of cooking and cooking in the open kitchen, introducing a menu inspired by Italian ingredients and techniques.”
It was such a treat to sit somewhere beautiful, eat a very gorgeous meal and hang out with LM, safe in the knowledge that Izzy was sleeping soundly at home (still can’t believe she sleeps)…
The food really was very special and I can’t recommend enough – pop Passo on your list and please let me know if you go… and then tell me what you ordered!
(Save room for dessert. Thank me later).
