After much secretiveness and plotting, yesterday I was finally able to reveal my exciting real life advent calendar, Twelve Doors of Mayfair… and today I invite you to step through the second door with me, into the welcoming arms of the Shepherd Market Wine House – a stone’s throw away from the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane, where I’d stayed the night before…

Shepherd Market is  a charming small square and piazza (si!) with a plethora of twinkly boutique shops, restaurants, cafes and grand Victorian pubs. This pretty little enclave is tucked away between Picadilly and Curzon Street, right in the heart of London’s Mayfair.
It’s a bit of a hidden gem and when you do stumble upon it, it’s rather exciting… It has a gorgeous villagey atmosphere and they are having their own Christmas party next week, which you are all more than welcome to join – details are at the bottom of this post (and Elizabeth Hurley is switching on the Christmas lights!)



Nestled in these little streets is the Shepherd Market Wine House, where you can sit for hours on a candlelit table with friends, drink sensational wine, indulge in platters of cheese and meats and only emerge into the Wintry evening once you’ve warmed every inch of you…






Along with a select number of wonderful champagnes, Shepherd Market Wine House has an enormous collection of sumptuous wines from every (every!) region in the world. They are all hand-picked by their Head Sommelier and Manager, Ben Van de Meutter, whose ability to pick a corker is second to none. Importantly, they don’t only choose their wines from renowned chateaux and domaines, but they also support small family-run vineyards, which I love.




They believe (as do I) that great wine deserves a perfect pairing, so settle yourself into one of their cosy corners and they’ll bring you a selection of cheese, charcuterie and delectable “small bites”… and if you can’t choose what to have,  have no fear for they will help and advise you on what to eat and drink to suit your palate…

I absolutely loved my afternoon sitting quietly in this corner of Mayfair, sipping wine and nibbling heavenly cheeses… I can’t wait to go back.
But before I do, I have ten more other doors of Mayfair to open and explore, with the third opening here tomorrow!
