I have never taken a trip to Berlin (I REALLY want to go) but even though I’ve never been, the whispers of the legend of their famous brunch has travelled over the seas and is something I’ve always longed to indulge in… (not the main reason I want to go to Berlin, but yes, it’s up there).
So you can imagine my (extreme) delight when I heard that roaming Berlin pop-up, brünch, has teamed up with German Gymnasium in Kings Cross, to bring the ultimate Berlin brunch experience to this fair city.
Available for £35, the brunch comprises of a Berlin-style platter full of German delicacies for you and your friends to share. Showcasing some of the best German produce, the brunch includes cheeses, meats, smoked fish, fresh fruit, typical German desserts, cakes, and bread from Germany’s leading bakery, Kamps, and it also includes a complimentary glass of German Schloss Vaux Sekt.
The building itself is rather special – It was constructed in 1864 for the German Gymnastics Society, a sporting association established in London in 1861! It has a wonderfully grand feeling and we sat upstairs enjoying the never-ending delicious brunch, surrounded by perfectly ironed heavy white tablecloths, glimmering cutlery and so, so much delicious food…
Food is not the only thing on the menu – brünch has also been designed to showcase new and emerging DJ talent… Electronic tunes set the soundtrack to each sitting of brunch and when the collaboration ends on the 17th July, there will be a closing brunch feast to celebrate, with a live DJ playing tracks from the German capital, in association with Wines of Germany…
Now I’m even more desperate to go to Berlin – if this brunch is anything to go by, I just might never come home…
Brünch at German Gymnasium is available every Saturday and Sunday 12pm – 3pm. To reserve a table or to attend the closing event, please visit http://www.germangymnasium.com/whats-on-kings-cross/events/berlin-brunch/
We were guests of German Gymnasium, but as always thoughts and opinions are my own.
