La Suite West, Kew Gardens and a wonderful Vegan Afternoon Tea

Vegan Afternoon Tea
Following on from yesterday’s post, we arrived at Kew Gardens station around 30 minutes after leaving La Suite West….

The walk was just a few minutes from Kew station to Kew Gardens…

Kew Gardens
We arrived, handed over our ticket and were let loose into its magical world…
Over the past 250 years, Kew Gardens has made innumerable contributions to increasing our understanding of plants and flowers… and even though it was cold, the gardens were beautiful and tranquil… and Spring was definitely in the air…

And we couldn’t resist a quick coffee and piece of cake in The Orangery

Of course I photographed my coffee. Have I taught you nothing?

The day was fresh and the air was nippy, but we were wrapped up and cosy. Kew Gardens is such a special place and is the perfect spot to take a day trip to and stroll with your mum, during your stay at La Suite West…
We spent a few hours at Kew, exploring the many corners (and cafes) and then gently made our way back to the station to wend our way home to the hotel.
When we got back, I had a little bit of time to change into my dress for afternoon tea and catch up on some work at the table in my room…

And then it was time for tea…
Vegan Afternoon Tea
This was my first ever vegan afternoon tea and I had no idea what to expect… but I certainly wasn’t expecting it to be AS AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS as it was.
We ate in the hotel’s restaurant, ‘Raw’ and their afternoon tea completely blew me away…
Sandwiches
A Selection of Finger Sandwiches:
Scrambled Tofu ǀ Mustard Cress (S) Portobello Mushroom Pate ǀ Cashew Nut Butter (N) Lemon & Thyme Tahini ǀ Cucumber (N) Roast Tomato ǀ Sunflower Seed Pesto Avocado Chilli Mousse ǀ Rocket (S)

The sandwiches were all delicious… I ate them ALL! And then it was time for scones… and I could have eaten these until I popped. But I didn’t. I do have some restraint. (Sometimes).

The pastries were absolutely exquisite and really challenged me on my preconceptions of vegan food in general. Due to my own lack of experience and absence of investigation, I have always made the (very silly and actually, pretty ridiculous) assumption that a vegan meal might not be as tasty as a normal meal for me might be…
But this afternoon tea could not have proved me more wrong. The flavours and colours were vibrant and strong… and I didn’t feel as though it was lacking in any way at all. On the contrary, it was absolutely sensational.

My stay at La Suite West was just fabulous and the Kew Gardens Package turned an already wonderful stay, into an absolutely heavenly one.
With flowers. And tea.
What more could you possibly wish for?
