A Christmas Tipple: Disaronno Riserva

Disaronno Riserva
It’s official. Christmas is definitely on its way. I know this because the John Lewis advert is on the telly and I’ve started counting mince pies instead of sheep. Two very clear tell-tale signs that Autumn has come to an end and it’s time to hole up in your pyjamas and settle into the sofa, clutching a box of Quality Street and something heavenly to drink.

Luckily for us, Disaronno have timed the launch of their newest addition to their range perfectly. Allow me to introduce Disaronno Riserva – a unique blend of their world famous amaretto liqueur,  Disaronno, and Scottish whisky from distilleries across the Highlands and Speyside – aged in Marsala barrels from the Cantine Florio in Marsala, Sicily…

Um, I may have had a few of these a the event. They re authentically Italian! All part of the research, no?

Disaronno Riserva
Disaronno Riserva is the result of a very unique combination; blended scotch whisky made from a select mix of different malts, and the aromatic notes of Disaronno; almond, toasted hazelnut, vanilla and burnt honey make this drink exceptionally yummy.

The Disaronno Riserva packaging takes inspiration from the iconic Disaronno bottle, but with a cleaner and more refined outline, and comes packaged in a beautiful sleek black wooden case

Disaronno Riserva
It’s utterly delicious and has a hefty price tag to boot (£250) but I was lucky enough to try it at an event at Fortnum and Mason recently… and if I was looking to buy something special for someone special… and if I happened to have also won the lottery that day, THIS is what I would plump for.
Augusto Reina
Augusto Reina, CEO of Illva comments “I am honoured to present Disaronno Riserva – being aged in the oak barrels Cantine Florio, brings it all back to the long standing history of the company. It has all come full circle.”

Actually I’d buy two – I loved it and would definitely keep one for myself for a sneaky Winter tipple in front of Downton… (Did you see the last episode? Come on Edith!! Fingers crossed for Xmas!)
But I’d need to be quick, as this is a limited edition drink – only 10,000 bottles will be produced worldwide and if you’re in the UK, you need to whizz down to Fortnum and Mason on your fastest roller-skates and grab yourself a bottle. Or two.

I love it on the rocks…

There is an immense amount of history in the Disaronno company and family – the first bottle of Disaronno was presented to a student of Da Vinci’s in Saronno by a local innkeeper 500 years ago!
They’ve been doing their stuff for hundreds of years and are incredibly proud of their new baby.
And so they should be – it’s divine.
