– Westland Coffee and Wine – Old Street, London

Finding excellent coffee in London is not difficult, but then again, nor is finding terrible coffee. So sometimes, it’s nice to get a heads up as to where the top notch brews are hiding, and today I consider it my duty to inform you that they are in abundance at Westland Coffee and Wine.

Situated on the very sweet Westland Place in Old Street, Westland Coffee and Wine is right in the hub of a bustling and dynamic community – while I sat nursing my drink, people were in and out and saying hi and bye to owner Paul,  and catching up on the goings on of the neighbourhood… I love that. I love these small villages and clusters of wonderful characters in our big city…

 

They’re in great company too – on the same street as Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen, their passing punters are those who know a good coffee when they see one. And a good sandwich too…
Westland Coffee and Wine don’t just specialise in exceptional coffee (made on their faithful La Marzocco Espresso machine, handmade in Florence) and wonderful wines from around the world (they do wine tasting events downstairs) but they also make a mean sandwich… and if you’re feeling for something sweet, you can indulge in a ridiculously good piece of cake or cookie…



 
This is is a no frills, dinky, gorgeously designed and excellent café to take stock in. Do a spot of work, read a book or just gaze out of the window and watch the world go by… it’s a proper little gem in a proper pretty street.
