A couple of weeks ago I was invited to have my locks lopped off by the Scissor Ninjas at Ena Salon in Holborn. I leapt at the chance. Not just because it was voted one of the top five salons in London by Tatler last year, but because I was so overdue a haircut – my split ends had been screaming for attention for weeks and I’m sure had started plotting a revolution.
It was in fact my split ends who put the Holborn address into Google Maps and made sure I was there on the dot, ready for my appointment with the supersonic Gianna – a gorgeous smiling stylist from Cyprus, whose scissors seemed to be extensions of her fingers. Like a Tim Burton Movie. But not at all scary.
Ena Salon is the baby of Pedro and Johnny – two very talented owners with a vision and passion for beauty, attention to detail and immaculate service. It’s situated inside a beautiful, large Georgian house and is a grade 2 listed building. It is also the only original building on Great Queen St in Holborn, which boasts beautiful stained glass windows, original paneling and squeaky floors with stories to tell… ’tis a very special building.
Their furniture is sourced from Normandy, their lamp shades are from Finland, the lights have come from Belgium and all the wood used for the work stations had previous lives as scaffolding boards.. it’s a real fish mash of styles, but works together beautifully.
After a uniquely wonderful and relaxing hair washing experience, Gianna led me to her corner of the house, where she would perform her magic…
The Davines products Gianna used on my hair were really lovely and smelt gorgeous. I had a quick peek on their website and loved their motto – “By creating beauty we want to encourage people to take care of themselves, of the environment in which they live and work, and of the things they love.”
Ena Salon has a wonderfully relaxed and cosy feel to it. It had been a tremendously cold day, so to walk into the warm glow of their beautiful Georgian house, sip tea, nibble cake and feel taken care of was an absolute treat.
My haircut was fantastic, the location is amazing, the products were gorgeous (I’m hooked) and I will certainly be back. It’s also not as expensive as you might think, with prices starting at £59 for a cut and blow dry.
Ena Salon is also not just a hair salon, it also offers a wide range of beauty treatments for men and women, including nails, facials and waxing. They also have their own Education Academy where those wishing to form a career, can hone their skills and learn from the experts.
It was a wonderful experience and I hope my split ends hurry up and arrive again, so I can go back.
And eat more of that cake.
