Own Art: Making art affordable

Own Art - Poppy Loves
If you thought that owning a piece of art was a luxury afforded just by those with loadsamoolar, then you would most certainly not be on your own.
I thought the same. But we were wrong. Wrong wrong wrong.

Own Art is an AMAZING scheme, which makes it easy and affordable for everyone (that’s you and me) to buy contemporary works of art and craft including paintings, photography, sculpture, glassware and furniture.
Over 250 galleries are currently taking part in this brilliant and inspiring scheme, so there are absolutely loads of incredible and exciting pieces to choose from.
You can borrow up to £2,000 (woot!) or as little as £100, and pay back the loan in 10 monthly instalments… and the most amazing part of all is that the loan is interest free.
Yes. Interest free.
Here’s a little vid all about it, which was created in celebration of Own Art’s 10 year anniversary. The film includes interviews with Peter Heslip, Director of Visual Arts at Arts Council England, Mary-Alice Stack – Own Art’s Chief Executive and also has some exclusive footage from the reveal of Jeremy Deller’s animation at Westfield, co-commissioned by Own Art and The Space.

Since its launch in 2004, over 30,000 people have used the scheme to purchase in excess of £25 million of contemporary art and craft. BRILLIANT.
“I suggest that the great art belongs to all people, all the time – that indeed it is made for the people, by the people, to the people.” Maya Angelou
So take it back folks, and hang something mesmerising in your loo immediately.
Amazers.
