My Roman Holiday Interiors Inspiration

roman_holiday1
When I saw Cunard’s competition over on The Swelle Life, inviting me to create a Pinterest board showing how I would bring the essence of one of Cunard’s Mediterranean destinations into my home, I leapt at the chance.  And I knew exactly which destination I’d pick…

Cunard Rome
Roma! Roma, Italy! Café! Romance! Beauty, sensational style an intoxicating history and a hot midday sun all come together to make Rome one of the most seductive and thrilling cities in the world.
My Pinterest board is inspired specifically by the 1950’s film ‘Roman Holiday’, with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn.  The style, passion and energy of this film and its glamorous ‘on location’ scenes, capture the very heart of Rome for me and fill me with inspiration for ways I can introduce elements of this stunning city into my own home.
Here’s the original trailer, just to make you smile and get you in the spirit of things…

With this in mind, I have chosen to mix up the old and new, selecting white washed walls, wooden rustic furniture, bright colours, masses of light,  fresh flowers, 1950’s Italian furniture, iconic prints, bright Italian retro accessories, romantic touches and exceptional Italian design… all these things have provided the backdrop for my Roman Holiday inspired home…
I have selected just a few pictured from my Pinterest board to show you here on this blog post, but you can view my complete board here…

I love the idea of using these vintage Italian suitcases as storage.. or just as accessories in a beautifully simple room.. it looks like Audrey Hepburn herself might be hiding behind them! I recently found these ones in Oliver Bonas:

Popped into Oliver Bonas to have a nosey around.. love these gorgeous suitcases - perfect storage for me!

I’m calling this gelato ‘inspiration’! But just look at that gorgeous colour… I would happily paint a wall that shade of carnation pink and almost feel the warmth of the Roman sun upon my face…

And finally – if one is to have a Rome-inspired home, then one must have a Rome-inspired cake, baking in the oven at all times.
