A cosy Autumnal bedroom makeover

Oh hello hello! It has been a little while since I’ve popped up here and that it because it has been all change over here. All change in work (if you missed it, you can catch up here) and therefore all change in life. I’ve had a bit of a rejig of time and priorities and have taken a couple of months to just sit with my decisions and work out how I truly feel about everything.
The good news is that I feel very good. I had reached a point where I was just feeling incredibly weary all the time and a little like I was on a never-ending hamster wheel of work, nursery drop-off and pick-up, laundry and cooking. Except, I was so tired, that balls were being dropped in their handfuls and even the cooking fell to the wayside. (All hail COOK, who essentially saved the day for a number of weeks). LM and I are very good at sharing all the tasks around the house – these life chores certainly do not fall upon my shoulders alone. However, we both had reached a point of extreme tiredness – an accumulation of lockdown, toddlering, working from home, flooding kitchen, rats, terrible neighbours… and if you missed all of this you can catch up on this instagram post!
So now having made these shifts and changes in my life and putting the emphasis back on self-care, it was time to give a little tlc to our own sanctuary at home and make a lovely calming space for us to read, rest and sleep in, ready for the Winter months.

I’ve always found it extremely satisfying how little effort it takes to create a sense of total transformation. And in our bedroom, where the bed takes up the majority of the space, a simple switch of bedlinen instantly changes the feel of the room, and the colour scheme too (if the walls are neutral, which they are). This linen is from Christy’s newest range and I absolutely love it. They always manage to straddle the worlds of both everyday and luxury perfectly, so that you feel as though you’re in a 5 star hotel, but you’re also happy to eat toast in bed and get a few crumbs on the duvet.
If you are in a pickle with your bedroom and you just can’t seem to get it feeling TIDY, my biggest piece of life advice in this department is to clear all the surfaces. Just get rid of anything that’s sitting on anything. Papers, makeup, pants, pens… whatever it is – stick it in a cupboard or a drawer or ANYWHERE ELSE. As soon as my surfaces are clear, I feel as though I can start to breathe again. I sleep better, I think better… I go to bed earlier as it’s such a joy… all signs point to ‘clear the surfaces’. And here endeth my lesson. That’s really all I’ve got. Oh, and if you don’t have any drawers – shoeboxes on shelves. Magic.

I swear by this Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream and adore the botanical sleepy mist from SUN.DAY

Some fresh flowers, some fresh linen and making clean and clear spaces for my little routines and rituals of night time moisturising and morning stretching… I know it’s a cliché but I really do feel lighter of heart and mind for having spent this time removing the clutter and celebrating the space.
And I love this space. I’m so proud of it and still can’t get over how perfect our floors are! We took a gamble and it totally worked then and they still look in great nick. (Well done, Ryan!)

Sending you all a warming hug as these colder months draw in… let’s all make cocoa and get in our pyjamas and go to bed early and binge on Succession.
