Java The Hut: Lantana Café

I can’t believe I didn’t know about this cafe. I should know about this cafe. It has Poppy all over it. And in it, scoffing its cakes.
Lantana Cafe is hidden among the little secret back streets of Goodge Street, (love the word Goodge) which you may not naturally stumble through. So I thought it best to share the love – would be mean to keep this one to myself.

The smell of vanilla poached pears or blueberry brioche baking hits you as soon as you tumble in, and with its rickety furniture, mismatch crockery and notice board bursting with adverts for bongo lessons, knitting clubs and roller-dog-walking (no lie), Lantana seems to have been thrown together by accident. Except it hasn’t.
Shelagh Ryan swam (not really) all the way from Melbourne, Australia to open up one of the most charming cafes I’ve been in for a long time…and what’s more, the food, the cakes and the coffee are spectacular.
Everything is freshly made on site by the lovely Tim Dorman and with his hot toasted banana bread with rhubarb berry compote and greek yoghurt calling me from the brunch menu, it’s a wonder I found the time to write this at all.
