A (very special indeed) afternoon tea at The Cornithia Hotel London

I had a baby recently. (Have I mentioned that?) And she is the bees knees. However, she does take up rather a lot of my time. And energy. And, um, everything that I used to have more of. (Yes, that includes money). (And minutes I can spend in the shower).
Finding time to meet a pal, have a proper chunk of time together and a real catch-up, with  no interruptions and no nappy changing is proving to be tricky. Which is entirely understandable and exactly what I expected…



But when an opportunity to experience an extraordinarily special afternoon tea at the Corinthia Hotel London presents itself, and your husband isn’t at work on that day and can look after your daughter while you go gallivanting off into the patisserie sunset… it’s as if the stars have all aligned and ACTUAL MAGIC has happened.


That morning I’d been to see the hand therapist (for those who are interested, this is a type of physio therapy) for my very sore wrists/thumbs etc. I was diagnosed with Quervain’s Syndrome and Carpal Tunnel… and so I  arrived at the Cornithia, all taped up with splints on my hands and a pocketful of exercises I needed to do. (Needless to say I haven’t done these as much as I should have (typical) but they’re great and I’m now armed (badaboom) with everything I need to get better).

As you well know, I am a bit of a fan of afternoon tea and have been lucky enough to experience a fair few… but THIS one was something very special indeed.

Everything about this afternoon tea was exceptional, from the way we were greeted upon arrival, to the patisserie itself. The room was magnificent, the pianist tinkling away on the Steinway was fantastic, the chandelier above us was extraordinary and the antique Champagne trolley being wheeled around to every table added something beautiful to the whole event.

We were seated in the hotel’s elegant Crystal Moon Lounge, where an extensive range of fine teas, including the Corinthia Hotel London’s house infusion, were displayed and prepared at a tea station by Tea Sommelier Ondrej Herda, who weighed and infused each blend, as well as controlling the brewing times to perfection.
After we’d devoured our sandwiches and scones, a second heritage trolley was wheeled to our table and we were served an abundant range of handmade pastries and cakes created by Head Pasty Chef Lois Carbonnet, including a Chocolate peanut sphere, and Rhubarb and strawberry tartlet.



The whole experience was completely wonderful and we had the most glorious time. We chatted, we relaxed and we basked in the calm and elegance of one of London’s most beautiful and magnificent hotels.
We loved every second of our amazing afternoon tea and I can’t recommend it enough.
Go go go go go.

Now please excuse me while I go and do my hand exercises. (3 times a day! Someone remind me, please!)

Priced at £45 per person (or £55 with a glass of Laurent-Perrier Brut Champagne, and £66 with a glass of Laurent-Perrier Rosé Champagne), the new afternoon tea service will be available daily – from 2pm until 6pm Monday to Friday, and from noon until 6pm on weekends.
