The Laslett, Notting Hill ~ a very, very special hotel ~

I lived in Notting Hill for around 10 years, before moving to Finsbury Park and then (and where I live now) Walthamstow.
When I lived there I was constantly asked by Portobello lovin folk – “Poppy, where should we stay in Notting Hill?” And I was so often stumped.
But I am stumped no more.

The Laslett opened its doors just over two years ago in January, 2016, to whoops of joy and choruses of ‘hallelujahs’ from the locals. The Laslett folk cleverly converted five Victorian terraced houses into a gorgeous, luxury, boutique hotel, situated around 1 minute’s walk away from Notting Hill Gate station.
It marks the latest collaboration between Living Rooms and Tom Bartlett, the founder of leading British architect and design studio, Waldo Works.
And it’s very, very special.






It feels as though you’re staying in someone’s home, rather than a hotel. It’s low key and luxury, married effortlessly through art, design and the supporting of local businesses and award winning London goods, e.g. Joe’s Tea Co., Sipsmith Gin and Press London Juices… (all to be found in your room’s ‘Big Bar’. And the hotel itself is named after Rhaune Laslett, a well-loved Notting Hill community activist and organiser of the original Notting Hill Festival.

Character and creativity is evident everywhere at The Laslett, where well-chosen Penguin Classic books for bedtime reading, sit beside curated artworks from local British artists, and vintage curiosities from antiques dealer Jerome Dodd, Les Couilles Du Chien. Throughout the property hand-picked photographs and art line the walls, each with a special connection back to the hotel’s location, whether it’s a link back to the early days of the legendary Notting Hill Carnival or an association with snazzy West London.

The location really couldn’t be better. You’re a hop, skip and a jump away from Portobello Road and all that it has to offer, including its fantastic antique and vintage fashion markets, the Electric Cinema, pubs, cafes, boutiques, delis, restaurants and galleries…
What a special spot to discover, and what a treat to be able to toot about it.
I loved my time at The Laslett and suggest you pop it at the top of your list for your next special London visit.
It’s one worth saving up for.
