Summer supper at La Gourmandina

La Gourmandina
Summer days are made even more perfect when they’re concluded with an al fresco supper somewhere special in London, when the sun has already dipped behind the clouds, the air is still warm and there’s an aperol spritz ready and awaiting your arrival…

With the Aperol Spritz, they served some savoury biscuits, typical from Puglia, called Taralli

I met LM after work and we strolled through Holborn to Lambs Conduit Street, where we settled at a little table outside the very special La Gourmandina… Dress: Uniqlo | Sandals: Saltwater

La Gourmandina is a sweet and charming mediterranean restaurant and enoteca (the specialise in wine!) with a delicious menu, an artisan deli and wonderful boulangerie, set on the very gorgeous Lambs Conduit Street.
It’s part Italian, part French and part magic with a dedication to local organic produce, which always makes me feel very happy and cosy inside.
As we sat in our chairs on the pavement and watched the word go by, we perused the menu and settled upon a variety of deliciousness… and hopefully my photography will do much more to bring these very special flavours to life, than any words I could possibly muster…
La Gourmandina
Our starter was a selection of three dishes: 1. Grilled octopus and smoked ricotta cheese from Piedmont, served on a bed of cannelloni beans 2. Summer salad, with fresh peach, apricots, black olives, pea shoot, primo sale cheese 3. Savoury tomato tart (Datterino tomatoes, Dijon mustard, brisee dough, rocket, aubergine caviar)

Such stunning colours!

And for our main courses, LM had  the Summer Lamb Cassoulet, with lamb belly, merguez sausage and lamb cutlet, peas, broad and green beans and  tomato concasse…. and I chose the black squid ink tagliolini with poached cod and courgettes.
Both dishes  were superb and as we ate, we couldn’t help but feel as though we were on a holiday somewhere golden and dripping with sunshine…

La Gourmandina has a wonderful local feel to it – it’s a well loved regular haunt for many and we felt very privileged to be able to experience this warm, family & friends-loving restaurant on that beautiful evening…
We of course ordered dessert and I was in charge. (Hurrah!) So naturally, this happened…

Profiteroles a’ la Française – homemade choux, filled with vanilla ice-cream and topped with hot chocolate…

This dessert was amazing. We devoured it. I wanted to order another one but LM stared me down.
And very sensible he was too.
(Anyone want to meet me there tonight?)

We were guests of La Gourmandina, but as always thoughts and opinions are my own.

You may remember that at the beginning of the Summer I was the recipient of an amazing delivery from Wyevale Garden...
