I grew a tomato! On my balcony!

Grow Your Own
You may remember that at the beginning of the Summer I was the recipient of an amazing delivery from Wyevale Garden Centres, who challenged me to grow my own produce on my London balcony… and I am extremely proud and pleased as punch to report, that I have had SUCCESS!

Throughout the Summer the weather has been, um, changeable. It’s rained, it’s poured, there’s been blazing sunshine and strong winds… and because of this, a few of my bits and bobs didn’t quite get going… but my tomatoes, mint and even my baby aubergines have held on like soldiers… and today, finally, I have some (actually, one) juicy tomatoes to eat for supper.

It has been so exciting popping out onto the balcony every morning to see how everything is doing… the tomatoes especially, really have been fun to watch grow and change colour… it’s been a little bit of slowness and calm amidst an otherwise very hectic few months.

Having my ‘Grow Your Own’ kit delivered by Wyevale Garden Centres has made everything so easy… and once you start exploring their website, you will find yourself wanting to transform your gardens, balconies and patios in more ways than one! I’ve actually got my eye on some of their garden furniture for my new house… this little video can give you a few ideas on how to make your garden feel like home…

The next step in my project is to find some lovely recipes where I can employ my newly grown tomatoes, aubergines and mint… I’m thinking a delicious late Summer salad – what do you think?

Or, if you have any other ideas, I’d love to hear them…
