Spark Your City with Thomasina Miers & Kipling

You know Kipling? That super gorgeous brand which creates wonderful bags and accessories that make you feel better about life? Yes, them.
Well, Kipling decided a little while ago to take their ethos of celebrating life’s important little moments, and spread it far and wide… as far far far as they could… like magic dust in the wind…
And Spark Your City was born.
Spark Your City is a global movement that inspires women in every corner of the globe to spark happiness into everyday city life, by transforming ordinary city routines and landmarks into extraordinary living playgrounds for one day….
They provide a platform for ‘creative change makers’ to bring to life their vision of colour, imagination and happiness…. what a wonderful, wonderful thing.

It is based on a value exchange, between the cities, the creative changemakers and Kipling. Everybody benefits from the city sparks. The cities get unforgettable fun and exciting projects that inspire and touch the hearts and minds of its inhabitants… and the creatives get to empty their minds onto the streets of the city. BOOM!
You may’ve spotted some of the earlier sparks during the Summer from creative changemakers Gemma Cairney and Helen Skelton… and this month’s creator is award winning chef, author and entrepreneur Thomasina Miers.

You will know Thomasina Miers if you’re a Masterchef watcher – she took the winning title and then went on to open her own chain of Mexican restaurants – Wahaca – where she celebrates fresh quality produce and uses the skills inspired by the authentic food markets of Mexico . What a clever lass she is.

Today, Kipling and Thomasina Miers sparked an infectious message of happiness by realising a giant 12 metre multi-coloured greenhouse on London’s Southbank. Thomasina was there today chatting to all the visitors and educating people on the journey of food. The greenhouse will literally bring food for thought to commuters and passers by…
“I want to tell people about the joy of vegetable gardens and growing your own food. This truly sparks happiness into your ordinary everyday meal.”

Thomasina was handing out a selection of seeds inspired by the colourful herbs in the greenhouse to everyone who passed by. We all then had the opportunity to choose a recipe card providing interesting, quirky tips on how to incorporate our chosen greens into dishes at home. The cards will include twists on Christmas recipes (LOVE CHRISTMAS!!) and had handy instructions on how to spice up meals by integrating home grown flavours during the festive season….

Spark Your City is respectful to the city, its inhabitants and the environment. They want to only MAKE HAPPY. They’ve decided that the only way to do this is by acting as sustainably and responsible as possible, so for this spark the wood elements of the greenhouse will be removed and chipped and used for heating the workshop and all the greenery in the greenhouse will be donated to the ARC Franklin school following the spark. (This school is part of Thomasina’s Openair Classroom Project.)

Kipling’s Spark your City, will continue to team up with engaging and talented women who are pioneers and influencers in their specific fields of expertise.
They will continue to inspire and touch the hearts and minds of people around the world, reminding us all that life should never be taken too seriously and we should all ‘make happy’ everyday.
I could not agree more.
