Jeremy Goring, the fourth member of his family to run luxury Belgravia hotel, The Goring, recently discovered two gorgeous vintage shots of his great-grandfather and grandfather on the slopes of St Moritz and was inspired to bring their favourite skiing spot to the family’s hotel this winter. Well, obviously. Why would you not.
Earlier this month The Goring’s popular outdoor terrace was transformed into a glamorous alpine Ski Bar, complete with Cresta Run excitement, waiters fetchingly clad in vintage ski jumpers, wooden sled tables, antique skis, cosy sheepskins, twinkling lanterns and thick cashmere blankets and (most importantly) heating – keeping everyone cosy late into the night.
Every single detail has been thought through to an inch of its Alpine life. The cocktail recipes have been flown in on their own private cocktail plane (I wish that were true) from another iconic family-owned hotel, Badrutt’s Palace in St Moritz, and their award winning barman Andrea Delve has created cocktails such as the San Moritzino and Suisesse which will warm your cockles (that’s not rude) on a cold winter’s night.
The Goring is also serving up delicious (DELICIOUS) Swiss inspired canapes from chef Shay Cooper who has put his Michelin-starred twist on Tartiflette, Roesti potato and Mustard macaroon with Emmental cheese and cured ham. Kaboom.
With the perfumed scent of pine in the air and the sound of Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra softly playing from a gramophone, you won’t want to be anywhere else this Winter – I certainly don’t.
I say it’s time to take after work drinks to a whole new level… see you there?
