Macmillan Cancer Support is one of those charities that seems like it knows you personally. It’s like a friend, your gang, your rock and is now synonymous with coffee mornings, the coming together of friends and lashings (yes I said lashings and yes I read a lot of Enid Blighton) of cake.
When I found a lump in my breast, the whole world stopped. Thankfully, my journey didn’t continue past the biopsy and mammogram, but for so many others, the story is very different.

The amazing support that is being given to people affected by cancer across the country is so incredible that it makes me want to high five everyone that is working at Macmillan, helping ensure that no one faces cancer alone… but I can’t and nor can you – it’s not physically possible!
What we CAN do is shine a light – a light so bright that it can’t be ignored and will let the world know that we will never give up… and that those dear people whom we all know who are living with this disease, are in our hearts, our souls and we love them.

Flower Fairy Lights – The more different shapes, sizes and styles of lights I used, the more magical and enchanted my look became…
Summer Lights is a truly beautiful campaign from Macmillan, which its longstanding partner npower is helping to support. You may not be aware, but for over 12 years npower has been working with Macmillan. In this time, npower has given more than £7 million to help over 29,000 families by providing them with support such as emergency energy grants or writing off their debt, meaning they can keep warm, without the worry.
This year, npower has pledged a further £4 million over the next three years – what total legends.
For my own Summer Lights event, I held my ‘Summer Night’s Dream’ celebration in my mum’s garden and had an enormous amount of fun decorating the space with beautiful lights and decorations. Every light represents hope, support, love and friendship… and I gathered a gaggle of neighbours and friends to talk, eat cake, laugh and wave a sparkler or two…
I wanted to create a romantic and magical look, so I chose a number of different twinkly lights, all of which required batteries only, so there was no faffing about with outdoor power!

The amazing girls from Love Rosie Cupcakes & Cakes created some stunning Summer garden-inspired cakes, (which were unbelievably delicious!) all the different lights I used were from Lights4Fun and all my finishing touches, including the lanterns, pom poms, bunting, plates, ribbons and napkins came from Talking Tables – my ‘go to’ emporium for all things celebration related!

My finishing touch…Sparklers from Talking Tables
I hope that my look has inspired you to host your own Summer Lights celebration at home. All of the money you raise at your Summer Lights party will go towards helping Macmillan ensure that no one has to face cancer alone.
I am so proud to be a part of Macmillan’s incredible, beautiful and important Summer Lights campaign that npower is supporting… and I invite you all to join me in celebrating and supporting those you love who have been affected by cancer.
@macmillancancer is asking you to hold a #summerlights gathering. Share a photo of who is the inspiration for your celebration with @npowerhq and npower will donate £5.
Also, for the chance to win one of ten Summer Lights goodie boxes filled with decorations and lights, check out the @npowerhq Twitter page to view the daily competition which launches today!
