I have been dying to write this post for ages – I love skating at Christmas and am soon off to spin about on the ice myself! Ice Skating in London has become a bit of a Christmas institution and this year there is no shortage of places you can go to strap on your boots, scoff a mince pie and twirl about with the best of them…
Here are my seven of the best…
“Skate around the Christmas tree, then sip a hot chocolate while enjoying the festive scene from the Café Bar. There’s a huge main rink and smaller rink for beginners and children.”
“Skate at Somerset House with Fortnum & Mason offers a host of seasonal experiences on and off the ice. During the day, skate in the beautiful splendour of Somerset House’s neoclassical courtyard. After dark, the rink hosts some of the best international clubs and festivals at our exclusive Club Nights. Après-skate, enjoy a cocktail, indulgent fondue or tasty treat from Fortnum’s Lodge or the Skate Lounge.
Enhance your experience with one of our special Skate Extras including Champagne and Truffles or a Cream Tea in Fortnum’s Lodge, or go further afield to enjoy extra special experiences in the Fortnum & Mason Piccadilly store or at The Savoy.”
“Put on your ear muffs, gloves and skates, grab a steadying hand (if needed!) and have some festive fun on the ice in glorious Tudor surroundings.
The outdoor ice rink offers spectacular views of the red brick Tudor front of King Henry VIII’s magnificent palace, on the banks of the historic River Thames. Book an evening session to see the stunning palace lit up after dark while you skate under the evening stars!”
“Enjoy an Eyeskate, a spin on the London Eye’s very own ice rink in the heart of the South Bank.”
“Skate in the heart of the City of London at Broadgate’s magical ice rink this winter.
Just a two-minute walk from Liverpool Street Station, London’s longest running outdoor rink is surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants and just a stone’s throw away from Spitalfields Market.
Celebrate the festive season in style at our brand new luxury pop-up bar and restaurant, The Tasting Room. Nestled alongside the rink, sit on The Tasting Room’s outdoor terrace to watch all the action on the ice, or enjoy a post-skate tipple in the warm. Serving freshly smoked dishes, gourmet doughnuts, local craft beers and winter warmers, this smokehouse is a must-visit this season.”
“Located in the heart of Canary Wharf, the ice rink has a unique skate path which leads skaters under trees lit with fairy lights then back onto the main rink…”
“Experience the essence of Hyde Park Winter Wonderland as you don your skates and glide around the spectacular, glittering ice rink. Set around the Victorian bandstand and illuminated with over 100,000 lights, the Ice Rink provides a truly magical setting for ice skating.”
Are you planning to go skating this year? Perhaps I’ll see you there….
