The last time I was in Madrid was around 20 years ago, when I spent about 2 hours at the station, waiting for a train to Barcelona. That was it. Those were my Madrid memories. So when the Blue Sea Hotels invited me to stay in their hotel – Urban Sea Atocha 113 – and explore the city, I (literally) jumped at the chance. And if I’d had a trumpet, I’d have tooted it.
What a wonderful thing! And the best bit? I could take a dear pal with me too, to explore, eat churros and scamper about the city. But more about lovely Gem tomorrow :)
Blue Sea Hotels own and manage 18 properties spread across Spain, the Canary Islands, and the Balearic Islands and they offer something very special indeed – an affordable way to stay in and see all these amazing cities.
And when I say affordable, rooms start at £45 a night (yep) and we were slap bang in the middle of the city. The location could not have been more perfect – we were thrilled.
Normally, when I think of ‘affordable accommodation’, my mind wanders into ‘budget hotel’ territory, and all of a sudden I’m imagining being in a bit of a noisy, scruffy place and not getting much sleep. But allow me to tip this notion on its head and introduce you to the new way of doing a city break stylishly and affordably.
Our room was fantastic. Really bright and airy, with soft fresh white linen, floor to ceiling muslin curtains (and a very effective black out shutter too, hurrah!), simple, stylish furniture, clean lines and a kind of freshness that you just wouldn’t expect to find in such affordable accommodation.
The room would have been enough, but Blue Sea Hotels really go above and beyond to make sure your stay is as special as possible. There was 24hrs complimentary water, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and biscuits (massive jars of biscuits!) in reception, which was also open 24hrs.
At Urban Sea Atocha 113, there are 36 rooms, all with the same chic white interior, parquet floors and private bathroom. There is air conditioning, a hairdryer, free Wi-Fi, a telephone, a radio and digital television with a USB input, again, these little things just increased our pleasure and comfort. ‘Above and Beyond’ was the phrase that kept springing to mind.
The hotel also has a gorgeous rooftop terrace with incredible views over the beautiful city of Madrid, which was perfect for sunbathing or relaxing with a good book… (anyone got any recommendations for titles for Poppy Loves Book Club?)
As soon as you step out of the hotel you are met with a huge range of cafés, bars and restaurants, pretty much on its doorstep. The hotel has a huge range of cafés, bars and restaurants on the doorstep. Hotel Atocha is situated in the Art Triangle, and is therefore within a 10-minute walk of some of the tip top tourist sites such as the Reina Sofía, Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza museums… and of course, the stunning the Botanical Gardens, which we loved.
The hotel made for the perfect base for our Madrid adventure, and I’ll be sharing that with you tomorrow… get ready for MANY PHOTOS! We covered some serious ground and I can’t wait to share it all with you.
Thank you so much for having me, Blue Sea Hotels – I was utterly impressed and will be tooting your horn for a long time to come!
See you soon again :)
