I don’t know if wanting to eat everything in sight is a normal symptom of jet lag, but it was mine. And I embraced it with gusto, by heading to Rail House Café in Victoria, which you may have seen appear on instagram rather a lot in recent weeks… it’s because it’s very photogenic. And extremely delicious.
Rail House Café arrives from the team behind Fitzrovia’s hugely popular brunch destination favourite Riding House Café, and the much-loved neighbourhood restaurant and bar Village East in Bermondsey.

Designed by Adam with Lou Davies from Box 9 Design – Rail House Café is designed conceptually like a metropolitan station
Rail House Café opened at the beginning of last month and when we arrived for brunch a few days ago, it was heaving with couples, families and happy brunchers, merrily working their way through the impossible-to-decide-what-to-have menu…
There’s something for every appetite on their brunch/lunch menu, including Green Tea Waffles with coconut & berries, Shakshuka, Smoked Haddock kedgeree, Chilli Bean Chicken Wings, sandwiches, burgers, and loads of fresh fish…
They have also introduced the world to a unique Benedict-burger hybrid: ‘Burgerdict’ poached egg, beef patty, hollandaise, American cheese, English muffin. Or enjoy ‘Hot Smoked Salmon & Avocado’ with poached egg, dill salsa, dukkah, sourdough…
At lunch a ‘Raw’ section will be filled with all kinds of beautiful, including ‘Sea Bass Ceviche’ compressed cucumber noodles, puffed rice, sesame (which looks as exquisite as it tastes). The ‘Sandwich’ listings will elevate sarnies to new heights via ‘Sandwich La Sandwich’ buttermilk-fried chicken, harissa aioli and a novel ‘Wellington Burger’ with chips. And the Reuben sandwich had us close to tears. (Of joy).
We shared the above plates, which were zingy, fresh and lip tingling wonderful, before moving onto the most delicious Reuben sandwich and grilled tiger prawns…
Rail House Café’s bar, Puffing Devil, creates cocktails such as ‘Saffron Spritz’ Saffron gin, Rhubarb liqueur, tonic, chandon rose and ‘The Seoul Train’ Sangsom rum, jinju 24, lime juice, watermelon juice, coriander… plus an extremely good wine list and craft beer selection that hop heads will travel for, which includes their own specially brewed variety!
The dessert menu was a disaster, as pretty much everything on it was one of my all time favourites. Apple crumble, creme brûlée, profiteroles, chocolate fondant, cheesecake… ARGH! We opted for the profiteroles to share, and they were sensational.
There’s also a lovely outside seating area, for the upcoming months… I can’t wait.
And I already know what I’ll be ordering.
