Sometimes, only a staycation will do. A night away from normality. From routine. A short teeny tiny holiday in a massive bed with a massive bath where people bring you breakfast in bed and leave you a mini bar full of biscuits and naughtines. And even though you are only about 30 mins away from your own front door, it still means everything. It’s a total wind down – forget about the world – give yourself a hug – treat.
There are oodles of wonderful hotels to book on i-escape.com, but this one stood out to me. Possibly because it was so quirky and boutiquey. Definitely because it was in London.
The original building of the Artist Residence London used to be a pub and dates back to 1852. It was designed by that clever chap, Thomas Cubitt, who was renowned for creating the Belgravia and Pimlico neighbourhoods of London.
Artist Residence London carefully restored the building over a period of two years prior to their launch in 2014, sourcing exciting artwork and individual pieces of beautiful furniture along the way.
There now stands a stunning 10 bedroom boutique hotel where the pub once was, in the pretty neighbourhood of Pimlico just a 5-minute walk from Victoria Station, Belgravia and Sloane Square.
On the ground floor there is a restaurant called The Cambridge Street Cafe which is open all day serving breakfast (it was packed even mid-week – definitely book!) through to dinner with an emphasis on fresh, delicious, seasonal produce. I ordered brekky from there to be delivered to my room – the highest form of decadence, in my opinion.
And in the basement lies a cocktail den, where you can cash in your i-escape.com vouchers and order something extraordinary. Think Peking duck whiskey, celery bitters, avocado lemonade… Exactly.
It’s not surprising that the hotel has awards and accolades coming out of its ears, including the ‘Top 100 hotels in Britain’ by the Sunday Times, ‘The Hot List 2015‘ by Conde Nast Traveller & ‘London Hotel of the Year‘ Cesar award by the Good Hotel Guide.
The hotel wrapped us up in goodness and sent us on our way the following morning, full of good food, good sleep and they totally saved the day by having spare phone and laptop chargers of every description.
It was the perfect recharge on a Sunday night, to set us up for a Monday morning, with a spring in our step.
Especially after *those* eggs.
Same time next week please.
