I love Chinese food. And I mean, I LOVE Chinese food. It started in my teens and a pivotal moment was when I chose Peking Duck & Pancakes at home with a pal, over a New Year’s Eve party in a swanky bar. Where a boy was going to be who I liked. And he played the guitar.

Even then. I ditched both him and the bar for duck.

What can I say. It’s a full blown love affair.

Normal people meet friends after work for drinks. I suggest noodles. And my friends are my friends because they totally get it. We will always meet for noodles. Or we’ll say we’re meeting for cocktails in Soho and then abort the plan and end up in China town eating noodles.

But there is a dark side associated with Chinese food, coming in the form of MSG – monosodium glutamate. Many studies have been done to establish if and why MSG is actually bad for us, but the overriding message is that it certainly isn’t GOOD for us.

However, finding Chinese food without it is no easy task. Unless of course, you are introduced to Zing Zing (consider this done as of now) – an MSG free zone in the world of Chinese takeaway.  And it is absolutely delicious.

At Zing Zing, they believe that the entire Chinese takeaway industry has become addicted to “stuffing products with chemicals and preservatives. These ‘flavour enhancers’ are simply a cheap way to pass off awful ingredients as semi-tasty food.”

They want to create the best Chinese in the world and they are taking this mission very seriously indeed. They use only the freshest quality ingredients and their head chef, Jeremy Pang, is leading his team of cooks with great passion. He is so determined to spread the gospel of NO CHEMICALS IN CHINESE FOOD that he’s dedicated his career to teaching folk how to cook Chinese food brilliantly, at the excellent School of Wok.

We ordered a meal, which arrived on the dot, piping hot and even the delivery guy was a delight.

The whole meal was excellent… and the best bit was the total lack of guilt or rubbish heavy/bloated feeling afterwards.

It was pure joy from start to finish and my love affair with Chinese food has now grown to a whole new level…

Thank you, Zing Zing!
