Over the last six weeks I’ve packed up a flat in Finsbury Park, moved house to Walthamstow, had a jaunt in the Cotswolds for LM’s birthday, whizzed off to Greece for a couple of weeks holiday and suffered a technical disaster to end all technical disasters. (Hundreds of emails were deleted from my inbox and I’m still wading through my injured inbox on a recovery mission…)
I’ve unpacked boxes, filled new cupboards and drawers, been in battle with a surprising amount of moths, met my new postman (Lee), found a real life milkman to deliver milk to my door in proper glass bottles (Parker Dairies) learnt which day the bins go out (Tuesday) and have discovered an avocado on toast brunch to rival all others I’ve ever had before, at my local cafe – Bühler & Co.

Godiva 90th Anniversary Collection Truffles, Book: Shame by Melanie Finn, for Poppy Loves Book Club
So now I’m trying to catch up with myself a little. Rather than chasing my tail, I’ve drawn a line under Summer, kissed it goodbye and have welcomed in Autumn with a smile and some cosy dresses.
Taking a moment each day to stop, sit on my sofa and have a cup of tea, is one of my favourite (and most important) things to do.
I stop, clear my mind, listen to the radio, perhaps read a couple of pages from my Poppy Loves Book Club book… I sip hot tea to comfort the soul and on this particular day, I accompanied my tea with a Godiva box of chocolate truffles – a total indulgence, but I forgive myself because I don’t smoke and my bedroom is tidy. (It’s not).
Taking these moments to pause, sip tea and take stock, keep me happy.
They’re my way of stopping time.
My inbox can wait.

There’s nothing more wonderful and important at times than just taking that time to focus on small, comforting home comforts. Love that dress!
