Being a secret spy for the
Dorset Cereals B&B Awards
(Shhhhhh…)

This week was the closest I have ever come to feeling like James Bond. I’ve been a proper spy, with a backstory (which I kept fluffing up) a bullet proof suitcase (not exactly) and an Aston Martin. (Total lie. I went by train).

This week I have been working with with very gorgeous (and extremely oaty) Dorset Cereals, who you will almost certainly be familiar with. You may even eat Dorset Cereals for brekky every day, but did you know that they also have a brilliant relationship with B&Bs across the UK? Continue Reading…

The things I surround myself with at home have a direct affect on my state of mind, my mood and my happiness.

I’ve always known it. Ever since primary school, when Claudine Harris had a pink sparkly pencil and a rubber that smelled of strawberries and I wished they were both mine more than I wished Mrs Nye (scary teacher) would be eaten by some sort of fire breathing, North London dwelling dragon.

Transforming my home grown tomatoes

All the way through the Summer, Autumn and up until a few days ago, I had the fruits of my successful labours alive and kicking and glowing beautifully red in pots outside my kitchen, thanks to Wyevale Garden Centres.

They sent me all kinds of wonderful goodies to attempt to grow myself… some were more successful than others and my overwhelming triumphs were my little tomatoes!

Discovering London’s Villages: Belgravia

Wild at Heart Florist Belgravia

The villages of London are without a doubt, my favourite aspect of this amazing city. Each has its own personality, community, hubs and secret corners and a few days ago I headed over to one of the most beautiful (and expensive) residential areas of the world – Belgravia – to wander the streets and explore some of the most delicious foodie spots the area has tucked away under its wing.

A few days ago I was in my local TK Maxx looking for a socks. And a mug. And maybe a present for my friend’s birthday… TK Maxx is very much like that, I find. I pop in for one thing (or nothing) and leave an hour later with all kinds of goodies at a fraction of the price you’d normally pay. (I do love a bargain).

Gone Fishin’

When you move into a new home, you inherit all kinds of bits and bobs. Loose fittings, a wobbly tile or squeaky hinge…

When we moved into our new house a few weeks ago, we inherited all these things.

And a pond. With actual fish in it.

Most of you will know that LM and I recently went on holiday. An actual holiday. One of those holidays where you stop and lie down in the sun and don’t move, while you feel the sunshine seep into the tiniest corners of you and you recharge. Like a battery. Where you can lie by the pool for hours and suddenly it’s supper time.

One of those.

Affordable Art Fair
Does exactly what it says on the tin

There’s something about the word ‘art’ that, I think, can be quite intimidating. I’ve been involved in many discussions over the years, where various folk after various dinners have attempted to answer ‘what actually IS art? And usually, depending on the amount of wine that’s been consumed, this descends into a muddled argument where no one seems to be able to agree and one smartypants will pipe up saying that they could paint like Pollock when they were 3 and what’s the big deal anyway?

The Summer may be wending his merry way home, but the sun is still shining! But don’t let it fool you – it’s getting colder by the minute. Our central heating is now on, the thermostat wars have begun (I notch it up, he notches it down) and I’m reaching for some cosier outerwear for this inbetweeny weather, before Winter properly sets in and suddenly it’s all about Jingle Bells and cranberry jelly.

(Hundreds of emails were deleted from my inbox and I’m still wading through my injured inbox on a recovery mission…)

I find that things get sorted out over brunch. Problems are solved, difficulties are unpicked and the world is put to rights. It’s my favourite meal hands down. Apart from cake and tea. And yes, that’s a meal.

Brunch is made even better when you can share it with a bestie, and that is exactly what I did last week, at Bill’s on Baker Street.

I LOVE Fireworks night. I love the trudging through parks and fields, the smell of nearly burnt jacket potatoes smothered in butter and laden with cheese and beans… I love hot chocolate in flasks, woolly hats on heads, bonfires, sparklers and being wrapped up in my cosies while gazing up at the crash bang wallops…

London does Fireworks night oh so very well and this year it falls on a Saturday (hurrah!) so we can all get out and wave a sparkler or two… Here are ten of the best displays in this glorious city…

Oh hello, Autumn. There you are.

Poppy Loves AW16

Over the past few days there has been a noticeable shift from Summer to Autumn… Grey clouds have made a few appearances, the heavens have opened once or twice (and both times I have been caught out without an umbrella) and there is definitely the beginnings of an Autumnal carpet of golden leaves around my neighbourhood in London…
