A day at the races – my first time at Ascot!

Chaps and Dames

Ever since I saw Eliza Doolittle scream in the most unladylike fashion on my grandparents’ television, “COME ON DOVER!!” I have wanted to go to Ascot.

I was very lucky to attend Ascot a few days ago as the guest of Great British Racing. The excitement was palpable. Which was followed quickly by panic – I need a HAT! And, what am I going to do with my hair?

My fascinator hunt took me to House of Fraser, and I immediately fell in love with this one by Jacques Vert. On the morning of Ascot, I took my muddle of hair and fascinator down to Chaps & Dames in Finsbury Park, who transformed my mottled mop into this beautiful, sleek hair do…

It was a very special day. The races were thrilling, the atmosphere was full of fizz and memories of watching My Fair Lady as a child came flooding back… here’s a clip from this amazing film, when Eliza gets whisked off to Ascot!

Thank you Great British Racing, for looking after me so wonderfully…

I wore my fascinator all the way home… but when I got off the train at Waterloo, it was as if the glass slipper had fallen off my foot, the pumpkin had arrived and the magic was over.

Until next year…
