Sundae Best

Haagen Dazs and Liberty

I love ice cream. And when I say I love ice cream, I mean I really REALLY love ice cream. I love it like you might love clocking off on a Friday. Or finding a £20 note in your jeans. (Never has happened to me but I live in hope). I REALLY love ice cream.

So when I heard that Häagen-Dazs  were launching two new, limited edition, floral inspired flavours… I had to try them. The Little Garden range will be available exclusively at Liberty London from 11th April for a very short time… so it might be worth getting in the queue now, because they are absolutely GORGEOUS and stocks are limited…

I am not a big lavender or rose fan, so I was initially a little skeptical… but both of these flavours are balanced completely perfectly. Lychee Raspberry Rose is a delicious and fragrant blend of aromatic rose, sweet lychee and intense raspberry, whilst Apricot Lavender is a heady combo of fruit and floral – both are utterly divine. I could have eaten the entire tubs. But I didn’t. *Bows*. (I nearly did).

The tubs have been lovingly designed by Jardins de Babylone, a team of botanical artists from Paris – the perfect fit for Liberty…

I wanted to create a special Spring Sundae with these two new flavours; Lychee Raspberry Rose and Apricot Lavender… so on my way home from Camber on Sunday, LM and I popped into the garden centre and picked up some edible violas and roses… (I used the petals only. Don’t eat the stalks – you’ll be very cross with me if you do).

A handful of violas..

I used some of the petals as they were, and some I crystallised…This was my first ever attempt at crystallising and I definitely got better and better, the more petals I did. It is a very easy process indeed – you just need an egg white, a couple of teaspoons of water and some caster sugar…

Spread a thin layer of egg white on the petal, then dip in and sprinkle with caster sugar…

It’s definitely easier with tweezers!

…then leave for a couple of hours. Repeat if necessary…

I was very pleased with my efforts and these flowers made the perfect finishing tough to my Spring Sundae!

I chopped up a couple of strawberries as well, to add a pop of colour…

Häagen-Dazs Little Gardens

When I was in Rye last weekend, I bought 6 of these beautiful cut glass dishes in one of the many antique shops – I managed to buy them all for just £14.50 and they remind me so much of my grandma! Except she used to use them to serve half a grapefruit with a glacé cherry on top… :)

This Sundae is absolutely bursting with colour, fragrance, fruits and blooms…. it tastes of the sweetness of Spring and the promise of Summer…heavenly.

Don’t forget to get yourselves down to Liberty from 11th April to Sunday 24th April. You’ll be able to take in the stunning floral window displays created by Rebecca Louise Law, to celebrate the launch and of course, grab yourself a couple of tubs of the good stuff.

And maybe don’t tell anyone you’ve got it in your freezer…

You’re not going to want to share this one.
