Learning to make Goan Fish Curry at
Waitrose Cookery School

Waitress Cookery School

I really enjoy cooking. I’m very happy making a mess in the kitchen as I steadily work my way through every pot, pan, knife and chopping board I can lay my hands on… I occasionally attempt to wing something from whatever I’ve got in the fridge… but this usually doesn’t end exceptionally well.

Which often surprises me. I feel I ought to be really good at that. Especially if I had radio 4 on on the background. If it was a movie, I’d be whipping up amazingly gorgeous dishes from half a carrot, some old feta and a mystery vegetable. But I don’t live in a movie (I DO I DO I DO) so I stick to my beloved recipe books and love discovering new and unusual dishes.

Rhiannon Southwell is a Bristol dweller, who likes a bit of privacy in her home. And don’t we all. But there’s something about net curtains that makes me think of Dot Cotton, frosted glass conjures up images of cheap hotel bathrooms and finding blinds that both do the job and actually look lovely too, are very difficult to come by.

Rhiannon felt the same, and so after a fruitless search for a window solution she loved, she decided to take matters into her own hands and painted a folk inspired design onto the inside of her windows.

My Funny Valentine

Emma Bridgewater Hearts Radio

I am a romantic.

Not a hearts and chocolates and champagne romantic, but a letter writing, sitting on a bench, kite flying, no words necessary, foxtrotting romantic.

My grandpa used to serenade my grandma at tea time. Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, you name it – he knew the entire Cole Porter songbook…. and for this reason, so do I.

Pancakes in London: my ultimate list

Tom's Kitchen

Pancakes at Tom’s Kitchen

Toot toot! Pancake day is on its way and when it comes to crepes and pancakes in London, I am proud to say that I am extremely well informed… it comes from years of experience and dedicated research… which is very hard work and I’m sure you all feel very sorry for me.

This is a list of my favourite pancake haunts in London, which includes the crepe stand in Hampstead, where I first discovered, aged 14, the joy of nutella with banana… and sitting on a bench to eat it, in the rain, with a bestie.

A few days ago I found myself in one of my favourite parts of town and my old stomping ground, Golborne Road. I lived just off this street for around ten years, before moving to North London a little over a year ago…

In those 10 years I saw Golborne Road and the area around it change dramatically, with new places to shop, eat and drink popping up all the way down the street… and one of the new arrivals in 2014 was Snaps + Rye – the only Danish restaurant in London.

My Top 6 Theatre Picks for February

February is a short month, which means we have less time to cram in all the theatre we want to see!

If you can find a way to slot in some shows this month what with Pancake Day and Valentine’s, then please take note of my suggestions and grab yourself a seat! And if you’re looking for somewhere to eat before or after, that’s local to the theatre, just get in touch – I always have a few secret places to share with you…

– UNI Restaurant –

Uni Restaurant

Victoria, with its enormous station and busy roads, may seem like the last place you’d head to for a quiet and special dinner, but there are a myriad of charming and pretty streets nestled in and around the area… and on these streets are popping up more and more exciting new cafes, bars and gorgeous little restaurants…

UNI is on Ebury Street, which is the very street that Mozart lived on and wrote his very first symphony in 1764 – at number 180 Ebury Stret to be precise. Ian Fleming (who devised James Bond) also lived at 22b Ebury Street from 1934 to 1945… so it’s following in some rather glittering footsteps.
