Cinnamon Spiced Hot Apple Toddy

Jason Vale Juicer

In this super chilly weather, I have a tendency to reach for the hot cocoa in the evenings… and then the marshmallows… and sugar… and chocolate sprinkles… and you can see where this going.

So, in an effort to be less naughty and be kinder to my body, I’ve attempted to ditch as many refined sugars as possible and instead, make delicious warming drinks using only natural ingredients…

This warming non-alcoholic toddy is so easy to make – all you need are apples, some cinnamon sticks and some star anise.

That’s it. See? EASY.

January is Wellbeing month at QVC and after perusing their site and seeing all their wellbeing products and ideas, I have been suitably inspired to get fit and healthy this year… kicking off with this!

I used the Jason Vale Retro Juicer (currently available at QVC for £274.92) to juice up my unwanted apples. I love this juicer for a number of reasons – it’s quieter than any other juicer I’ve ever used, it’s got a really wide shoot, so you can pop large pieces of fruit straight down it… AND if you have frozen fruit you can make instant sorbet. LOVE that.

It collects all the pulp and skin… and it’s completely dry. All the juice is extracted from the fruit and goes straight into your tummy :)

For a bit of technical stuff too, this is a slow juicer. It utilises ‘slow technology’ and very little heat is generated when you use it… which means that the maximum amount of nutrients are extracted from the fruit you juice… and then you can keep it in the fridge for up to 3 days…

I couldn’t resist a glass of my freshly juiced apple juice before making my toddy…

I poured the juice into a saucepan and added cinnamon sticks, star anise and some slices of apple… and before I knew it my kitchen was filled with the most wonderful smells of hot apple pie…

The results – so delicious and warming…

For an extra hit of cinnamon you could always sprinkle a bit on top too…

No added sugar required – this is a wonderfully warming and comforting drink – perfect for cosying up with on these chilly Winter evenings, with some hot buttered toast and your favourite book.

And before you know it, Spring will be peeking it’s little head around the corner…
