It’s Burns Night Tomorrow!
Where will you be celebrating?

Burns Night celebrates the life and works of poet and lyricist Robert Burns – most widely known as the national poet of Scotland, but whom also penned that wee ditty, Auld Lang Syne… (does anyone actually know all the words?!)

Tomorrow night, 25th January, is Burns night, I’m certain that many of your will be donning your favourite tartan, popping on your long-adored kilts and celebrating with a dram or two of your favourite whisky

But if you’re still wondering where to go for your Burns Night celebrations, here are five of the best in London:

Bread Street Kitchen, St Pauls

This Gordon Ramsay restaurant is celebrating with a special four-course Balvenie Dinner, with Head Chef, Paul Shearing creating smoked salmon and scallops canapés, cullen skink with house-smoked haddock, roasted haunch of Highland venison, haggis, neeps, and tatties with a Balvenie sauce… and all with fine malt whisky pairings! Pudding will be clootie pudding dessert served with sweet, spiced 14-Year Caribbean Cask.

Four-course menu £45 per person or £75 per person with whisky pairings.

Mac & Wild

Mac & Wild, one of the newest Scottish kids on  the London block are having a Burns Night Blow Out! They’ve gone all out too – the haggis will be piped in (love the bagpipes) Burns’ poems will be read, and much merriment and singing is to be expected. Haggis will be served three ways, including something to do with a lollipop… and if you wear a jazzy (super jazzy tartan, mind) kilt, you’ll get a free drink. Boom.

Hot toddies at Rabbit and Shed

The Rabbit and Shed

Chelsea restaurant, Rabbit and sister venue The Shed in Notting Hill, will both be celebrating Burn’s night by offering diners the perfect traditional Scottish Burn’s feast fit for the bard himself.  There will be a very special homemade haggis and Hot Toddies-a-go-go…

Plum & Spilt Milk

Their special three-course Burns Supper for £60 per person, includes all the traditional dishes Robert Burns championed, the ceremonial haggis with neeps and tatties accompanied by a piper and a drink with each course. Kilts are not compulsory but encouraged ;)

Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings

If you’re after an extravagant Burns Night Party – head here. You will be encouraged to don your finest tartan for an evening of ceilidh dancing, whisky cocktails, whisky tastings and a Scottish feast of no less than 5 courses. The Burns Night Banquet is £55 for five courses and entertainment, £70 for five courses and whisky pairing and £105 for the premium whisky pairing.

And for those of you who don’t know the words of Auld Lang Syne and would like to, here they are in all their glory:

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days o’ lang syne!

Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet
For auld lang syne!

We twa hae run about the braes,
And pu’d the gowans fine,
But we’ve wander’d mony a weary foot
Sin’ auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidl’t in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roar’d
Sin’ auld lang syne.

And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere,
And gie’s a hand o’ thine,
And we’ll tak a right guid willie-waught
For auld lang syne!

And surely ye’ll be your pint’ stoup,
And surely I’ll be mine!
And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet
For auld lang syne!

(You can see the modern English translation here… and do take a peek, the lyrics are really quite beautiful.)

Will you be doing anything special for Burn’s Night?
