I do love munching on a deliciously warm, buttery, homemade mince pie, while clutching a steaming mulled wine between my mittens… Christmas Markets are one of my favourite things, like crisp apple strudel and schnitzel with noodles…

If you’re like me and you love the magic of the season, then head to one of these Christmassy market hotspots to chomp on some traditional artisan wares and stock up on some last minute Christmas shopping. You’ll be ever so glad you did…

Barbican Christmas Market
The Barbican Centre
12th – 21st December

For a second year running, the Barbican will host 10 days of seasonal shopping, as 35 independent designers, makers and artisans bring the foyers to life.

Showcasing unique gifts and products by local traders, if you’re looking for one-off gifts this is the perfect place to pick up quality vintage and designer clothes, arts and crafts, jewellery, books, toys and so much more. There will be plenty of mulled wine, hot chocolate and mince pies too.

Crafty Fox Market

The Crafty Fox Christmas Market

12th – 13th December

Crafty Fox Market is returning to SE15 on the weekend of the 12th and 13th December for this year’s Peckham Christmas Market. Take a step back from high-street and explore the creative crop of designer-makers that the Crafty Fox will be presenting at the CLF Art Café in the Bussey Building. There will be 50 different makers per day with an inspiring mix of gifts, jewellery, fashion, homeware and prints, including the Uncovered section that introduces a number of brand new makers. As always there’ll be a chance to try your hand at crafting too with creative workshops on site, plus a live art installation. With mulled wine and live DJ sets throughout, follow the Fox to get Christmas shopping sorted with festive cheer thrown in on top.

The popular Handmade Palace Christmas Craft Market is back! Join them on Sunday December 13 at the Alma. 35 artists and craftspeople will be selling their locally made art and craft. The Alma will be serving a winter BBQ and mulled wine in the beautiful walled courtyard throughout the day. And if that’s not enough they will be entertained by local musicians and vintage Christmas tunes with Rose and her gramophone. What better way to do your Christmas shopping :)

Columbia Road Christmas Wednesdays

Wednesdays 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd December 2015 (between 5pm – 9pm)

Located on the the famous Columbia Road Flower market, known throughout the world for beautiful blooms, the streets businesses are celebrating 10 years of Christmas Wednesdays this year! Over 50 independent boutiques, cafes and restaurants will open from 5 to 9pm on 4 Wednesdays running up to Christmas – offering a unique and magical shopping and Christmas experience. Shop locally and support the creativity of the East End, while enjoying some mulled wine and carolling around the neighbourhood Christmas tree…. Christmas trees will be on sale, and due to popular demand local choirs will be performing again, each week on the cobbled streets of Columbia Road.

The market this year will accommodate a wonderful Victorian Carousel for the little ones and the grown up little ones (ME!) There will be a Christmas Grotto where you can meet Santa or you can hop onto our little kiddy ride if the carousel is too daring for you. Wheeee!

East Village Christmas Market

Beautiful hand-crafted goods, perfect for thoughtful gifts, including quality leather goods from Briggs and Shears and hand-crafted jewellery from Inger Studio are on offer at the first Christmas Makers Market at East Village on weekends throughout December. The former Olympic Athletes Village has enlisted the help of lifestyle brand Earl of East London to host the market featuring hand-drawn designs from London printers, Lamplighter London, individual ceramic pieces from Blue Guy Pottery and indoor planters and terrariums with Ro Co. You can also meet the makers at a series of workshops, demonstrating craft skills from copper wreath-making to mini calligraphy workshops. And, once you’ve learnt how to handcraft leather items, you can try your hand at making their own personalised Christmas gifts.
