The Oldest Patisserie in London

Maison-Bertaux-Soho-15

Last week, Mbosh and I headed to Maison Bertaux in Soho, the oldest patisserie in London, to catch up, drink coffee and indulge in beaucoup de gateaux Francaises! (A lot of cake.)

The Bertaux family opened this wonderful café’s doors in 1871 and it was bought by Mr Vignaud in 1901. The current owner is a woman called Michelle, and she has worked there ever since she was 14, when she started as a Saturday girl under Mr Vignaud’s grandson – the then owner…

Hudson Baby Bourbon Whiskey

I know diddlysquat about whiskey. And I suspect many of you are the same as me, but I bet you know someone who really loves it. Someone who can talk for hours about hints, tones, and notes…bonds and  batches and barrels… (don’t worry, I looked it up.)

Dad’s, Uncles and other chaps can be notoriously tricky to buy for at Christmas, so here’s my twopenny’s worth.

Poppy Loves Make Up - Get The Look

So as you all know – I am really not an ‘in the know’ person when it comes to beauty products. I slap on various powders and creams which I find lying about – some of which came free with a magazine.. and most of which I have had since I was 13. It’s appalling behaviour.

Ice Skating at The Natural History Museum

Last Saturday, Natalie and I donned our cosiest jumpers, our wooliest hats and headed to The Natural History Museum to skate, drink hot choc and, oh, try to stay alive…

I’m in full Chrimbo countdown mode and Christmas in London just wouldn’t be the same without a spot of ice skating – it’s become a real institution… as has falling on one’s bottom. (WHICH I DID NOT DO.)

Deck chairs in Brighton

Last week I found the above picture in my camera roll, which I’d completely forgotten about. I few weeks ago I was in Brighton and this is a pic I snapped just before the sun started going down… I love it. It’s so quintessentially English and makes me feel warm and nostalgic inside… my grandparents sat on Brighton beach and took in this very view… and I suspect many of yours did too…

Yesterday was a crazy day.. I was running for most of it, (from place to place, not in a cool sporty way) and was tucked up in bed by 10pm last night from sheer knackeredness… but the beginning of my day began with me, bright as a daisy (ha) at the Hobbs Spring Summer 15 press show off Regent Street.

I cannot believe that I have been writing this blog for around 4 years, and have never written about a Sunday roast. What happened there? It’s a blog blip. A blog blip of epic proportions, as I am a Sunday roast FIEND.

The thing about roasts is, that they are so often horribly disappointing. Soggy bottomed Yorkshire puds, wishy washy gravy, over priced, poor cuts of meat… blah blah blah… so let me kickstart this by saying that this is not one of those stories.
