Afternoon Tea & a Sleepover at
the Charing Cross Hotel

Charing Cross Hotel I, as you know, am a big fan of afternoon tea. And the prettier and cakier the better. And the afternoon tea at the Charing Cross Hotel is one of the prettiest and cakiest I have ever seen…

Charing Cross Hotel Charing Cross Hotel Charing Cross Hotel We checked into our Junior Suite (ho yes… pictures down below…) on the newly refurbished 6th floor of the hotel, then moseyed our way to The Brasserie on the first floor, where Afternoon Tea is served. A room bursting with light and blessed with spectacular London views. We poured over the extensive tea menu deciding what to choose.. it was hard. Really hard. Really really really hard. But then we were brought bubbly Champagne peach bellinis…. and lo and behold, the bubbles focused me! Boom! A decision was made; Spiced Chai tea for me, please. And Earl Grey for him. The view from The Brasserie. Hello London!

We began our afternoon tea with delicious crust-less finger sandwiches, teenyweeny quiches and shiny, fluffy brioches filled with Scottish smoked salmon, cream cheese and chives… Sometimes I find that the food is so cute and tiny that a manly man might feel a bit silly eating all the yummies. However, the sandwiches were delicate, but a very decent size, so don’t think twice about taking your chap. He’ll be very pleased you did. Charing Cross Hotel

My favourite afternoon tea course was up next – freshly baked (STILL WARM) fruit scones with strawberry preserve and Devonshire clotted cream… swoon. Although, we nearly came to fisticuffs, arguing about whether the jam or the cream should go on the scone first… (jam first, OBVIOUSLY.) Charing Cross Hotel

Jam or cream on first? Hmm?

Charing Cross Hotel The scones were utterly gorgeous.. I can never resist scones at the best of times, but this was ridiculous. And I couldn’t stop. It was about now that I should have stopped eating and had a snooze under the table. But I didn’t. Don’t be silly. There was cake… Charing Cross Hotel Charing Cross Hotel Charing Cross Hotel

The whole shebang was just lovely. The pots of tea were a very decent (large) size and we both had several cups without a refill… I was full to the brim and we didn’t make it through everything, but we gave it a very good shot. Charing Cross Hotel There is also a gluten free option and a £12.95 menu for kids, which certainly would make the whole experience more affordable if you’re taking some mini-mes with you… Charing Cross Hotel Charing Cross Hotel

Charing Cross Hotel We strolled out into the glorious sunshine and in a hop, skip and a jump we were at Gordon’s Wine Bar, the oldest wine bar in London, (Established 1890) basking in the sun, sipping wine and trying not to look at the enormous platters of bread and cheese that were being devoured everywhere we looked… It’s such a treat to have a mini holiday in London. Everywhere looks different. Feels different. I’ve walked down Villiers Street a million times before, but it felt brand new on that day… Then it was back to the hotel for supper in bed. Or on bed. Supper on bed and telly. Mahoosive telly. Does. Not. Get. Better. Than. That. Charing Cross Hotel

The next morning involved a delicious lazy breakfast in the Brasserie, which included a hot buffet, pastries, fruit and fresh cheese and cold meats. I didn’t quite manage to try everything, but I gave it a very good go… Charing Cross Hotel
