Getting Eggy

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No. It’s an adorable egg-cosy to keep your soft boiled eggies piping hot on Sunday morning. Hurrah.

Meet Beth Foster. She’s the busy brains behind, (and clever creator of) gorgeous textile design company The Linen Cat; specialising in the stylish and oooozing in quality.

Taking her inspiration from clean Scandinavian design, the birds (tweet), the bees (buzzz) and her very own kiddiewinky’s doodles, Beth’s creations have a gorgeous simplicity about them and a charming 70’s feel of days gone by…ahhh.

Natural fabrics of wool and linen are sneakily mixed up with bright cottons and funky tweeds to create The Linen Cat’s signature look and feel; and with the must-have linen cushion covers and can’t-live-without cashmere bears and lavender birds snuggled up on the shop’s virtual shelves, you may not be able to resist.

Lantana Cafe is hidden among the little secret back streets of Goodge Street, (love the word Goodge) which you may not naturally stumble through. So I thought it best to share the love – would be mean to keep this one to myself.

And that’s a fact

“Cheshire-Puss,” she began, rather timidly, as she did not at all know whether it would like the name: however, it only grinned a little wider.

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”

“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat.

“I don’t much care where…” said Alice.

“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat.

“…So long as I get somewhere,” Alice added as an explanation.

“Oh you’re sure to do that,” said the Cat, “if you only walk long enough.”

Get the Scoop

May I introduce my new chum Betty. She is a marvel, full to the brim of scrumptious farmhouse ice cream and she will turn up whenever you need her… with bunting. Goodness!

Hayley, the founder of Vintage Scoops, set off on a mission to bring a taste of the glorious 50s to events up and down the country. Arriving at your event in Betty, the awfully jolly retro Ice Cream Van, and glowing in her bestest floral 50’s frock, she will serve you and your guests delicious (and locally sourced) Beechdean Farmhouse Dairy Ice Cream, vintage lollies, (remember Cherry Brandy and Fab and Rockets?) and lashings of traditional fizzy pop in those dinky glass bottles. Ginger beer anyone?

Absolutely cracking ice cream flavours such as ‘Strawberries and Cream’, ‘Sticky Toffee Fudge’ and ‘Pimms and Lemonade’ are available to dazzle, as well as your old favourites. Your wish is Betty’s command, so if there is a special flavour you fancy for an event, get in touch and the simply splendid ice cream magicians will get to work. Super.

Betty also brings her smashing vintage sweetie shop with jars bursting with Rhubarb and Custard, Pear Drops and Sherbert Pips…rather!

Golly gosh, it’s simply wizard.

Prints Charming

I’ve found a doodlebug.

Her name is Avril Kelly and she is an Irish lassy, soon to cross the waters to take up residency here in London taan.

This clever ladybug believes in the little things, (like fireflies and putting the top back on the milk bottle) and this message comes across loud and clear in her sassy illustrations and all things Kelly. She loves collage and textures, mixyuppy patterns and prints and is inspired by the things she sees in people, nature and in the world bobbing along beside her.

If you had something special in mind, just contact her here and have a chat with the lady herself – she’d be happy to connect, concoct and produce the very thing you have in mind. Bit clever is our Avril.

She adores cake, loves tea and collects vintage postcards too.

Keep your eyes peeled – this doodling dame is about to hit our shores…

Move Over Cupcake

Some things in life are boring, like getting a bikini wax, or waiting for the kettle to boil, or Bargain Hunt, (actually I quite like Bargain Hunt)… and some things in life are not. Like CRUMBS! Couture Cupcakes! Whoop! (Three exclamation marks = not boring).

Ex-city worker, Lady Cupcake left the rat race to set up this rather delicious company, which has skipped from strength to strength with swirly sugary fondanty ease. And let me just say right now that these are no ordinary cupcakes. Ho no – these vintage style babies are adored by the stars far and wide and were even shipped to India, (how?) for the veddin of Monsieur Russell Brand and his pretty warbler Katy Perry. And how they loved them; the ooohs. The aaaaahs.

Their selection is dazzling; with banoffee, blueberry and white chocolate sponge and fondant flavours of baileys, lemon, oreos and rose, whatever your beating heart desires your wish is their command. They’ll magic it up in a cupcakey haze and even pipe your name on it should you require. (Unless your name is really long. Like Penelope Noodle Tiddlypinkles).

Because they love everyone and not just Poppy, if there’s something which doesn’t agree with you, (I don’t mean paperwork), they have got it well and truly covered. Gluten free, egg free, dairy free, nut free…allergies back in their box please – there’ll be no reason why you can’t take a trip to yumaramaland.

They’ve swirls and sprinkles, fondants and twinkles… and with their cake pops, (yep), vintage sweets, belgian chocolate and a candy bar too, it’s a miracle Alice didn’t shop here for the Mad Hatter’s do.

I’m so terribly excited. I have to lie down.

Not just any old choccy

If you are on a diet, don’t read on. There’s no point. It will upset you, you will probably become violent and I don’t want to take any responsibility for any injuries you may incur.

The image before you is the overwhelmingly delicious Chilli Cube from ‘Melt’ – an astounding haven of homemade chocolate wonderment, hiding away on Notting Hill’s Ledbury Road.

You’ll find a dizzying (literally, I nearly fell over) array of scrumminess on display, including white chocolate and tonka-bean lollipops, chocolate dipped meringues, sea salt caramels and banana, passionfruit and coconut bonbons. And breathe.

The ‘Melt’ gurus invent all their sensational chocolates and treats all by themselves and cleverly create them on site in an open kitchen, which you can view while sipping molton chocolate from their hot chocolate bar. No lie. Is true. I did it.

You’ll be skipping down Ledbury Road on a natural high before you know it.

The best bit? They deliver. So you don’t even have to put your socks on.
